I've never have had an issue related with drivers until now, but I'm just running a single card, I could't tell in CF.

was fine when i had them. i must be lucky.

Its not per gpu. Its still only 1.5GB. The memory does not double, it is mirrored. Same thing in sli. If you get two 3GB cards, its 3GB of vram not 6.

It was mainly the latter two that really got my goat, though mind you I snagged them when they first came out and replaced them when the 560 Tis came out.

Good to hear that the drivers have more matured on the 6xxx as it was something I was previously unimpressed by AMD/ATI, which was surprising due to how impressed I was with the 5870 looking further back in time.

I'm also trying to curb this upgrading habbit a bit by snagging some cards that should last me hopefully a while this time. Since the birth of my x58 system two summers ago my graphics card record goes as follows; GTX 260 -> GTX 260 sli (mainly for folding at the time) -> HD 5870 -> 465 GE (470) -> 465 GE sli (entered 3 monitor gaming) -> 6870 xfire -> 560 Ti sli.

If money is not an issue i would go for a 6990+6970 or otherwise GTX580 3GB SLI

Best price/performance would prolly be 6950's unlocked in CF

Money is partially an issue. As I stated I'd like to get the most of it it, even potentially be able to stave off upgrading when the next generation of graphic cards finally come out (essentially having no fps issues with highish eye candy on for probably a year with the current games coming out in the future).

I guess I should also state that I'm looking also primarily at the 580s or 6970s that have an aftermarket heatsink already on it as I've found stock heatsinks typically are louder and the cards don't run as cool (or typically overclock as well).

Thats exactly what Razi3l just said, that whats the point in getting a GTX 590 if they ONLY have 1.5Gb per GPU assuming everyone knows that you could use only 1.5Gb.

Have you considered the GTX 570 with 2.5gb of vram? They are $375 after MIR and should be enough power to play any game. That would fix your horsepower and vram problems.

It would fix that, however I don't know if it would really fix my want to try to avoid upgrading when the next gen of cards come out. Also from what I've seen, the 570 2.5GB still doesn't beat the 6970 for sheer power, just offers extra .5GB of vRam at a higher price then the 6970

I just wish I could find some of these cards used to save money on tax but it seems like its a ghost town for them
