Dead Mouse or.....?

My MX518 is finally dead i think after like 5 years of service so i think i need to go buy a new mouse cause this thing is annoying now. Every few seconds it randomly scrolls really fast on every page/game and if i unplu it it don't do it. It started off not scrolling at all, now it scrollls sometimes when i try to, and then it randomly scrolls up and down on its own so fasti can't read anything.

Is it my mouse or is it something else? Im fine with buying a new mouse, this one has gotten its fair bit of $40 use in its years

EDIT: I noticed it not scrolling at all before i reinstalled windows. Got back into windows with a fresh install, and it worked fine for about an hour, then it stoped scrolling and doing it on its own randomly.

Is there a way to open it up and clean out any dust or dirt? Try that first and if that doesn't work then you should start looking for another mouse.

Do you have another computer to test it on? Dont go buying something new when a Deadmau5 might not be the problem...

also, how old is your motherboard or try a different USB port. I know my mouse was CONSTANTLY shutting off (even though its wired) but when i used it on my laptop there was no problem. Turns out the Bus wires on the 5 year old motherboard i have are going shot and cant keep a good connection. Plugged it into a different USB and havent had a problem since. It could be the mouse though. What kind of mouse is it?

MOBO is about 2 years old i think, different USB was my first thought when it stoped scrolling completltly and it was pluged into the back of the mobo. Now i have it pluged into my G15 keyboard's use ports and it randomly scrolls on its own, but still don't scroll when i scroll it. And i said in the OP its a MX518

Yeah its the mouse then. Sadly, you would think mice could hold their own over time and such. trying doing what the one guy suggested and see if its needs cleaning or anything. It probably has a bad connection in the wiring is all. Not much you can do about that...

5 years is a pretty good lifespan for any mouse. Dude, get another MX518, they're only about $30 shipped now!
