QDC Draining Idea - Will it Work?

Thread Starter
With all of my parts arriving today and tomorrow I've been planning and re-planning my build. I've gone back and forth on an easy draining solution and haven't been 100% set on any one particular idea.

This morning while laying in bed I had an idea for a simple draining solution with the use of Koolance QDCs. I searched the forum to see if anyone had used this setup but couldn't find what I was looking for. So here's the my idea... you'll need a spare set of Koolance QDCs though. Do you guys think it will work?

Put in a set of Koolance QDCs at the lowest point of your loop.

Disconect the QDCs.

Attach an open drain line to both the male and female sides of the spare QDC set.

Connect the male drain line into your loop and drain.

Connect the female drain line into your loop and drain.

Can it be that simple?

Thanks for your input.

It can work, but it's also costly, being an extra set can cost between $20 and $30 depending on which QDC's you use. It would be easier to have a T-line that can be plugged off or leads to an upside down fillport drilled in your case (if you do this use a brass or acetal fillport).

You could also use something like this: http://www.koolance.com/water-coolin...product_id=264

That's exactly what I did. I found that just the bottom set would not drain the entire loop in my configuration, so I added a second higher, which does drain the rest of the loop. See my build log for more pics.

i think you have the same thing i do.
i just have two extra hoses with a QDC on each (one female and one male)
i have a QDC in the middle of my loop at the lowest point; i actually just made the hose a bit longer and dropped it down near the bottom of the case.
then all i have to do is connect the both extra hoses to each side of the QDCs and BLAMO! easy drain.

there are cheaper ways to do this though.
you can get a T joint, attach a hose to the extra opening and cap it off (you mite wanna find one with a lever to switch between directions though, i feel like it could cause turbulance because of the standing water at the end of the hose)

OR get a T joint, slap a QDC on the extra outlet and opposite side of QDC on spare hose and get a similar effect. this would be much easier than mine....kinda thinkin about changing mine up

I was contemplating a T line and bottom drain port but the difference in cost (30 minus the cost of the T fitting and drain port) is trivial when you consider the cost of a build these days.

yea that's why i ended up doing it the same way as you.
although i only needed one set of QDCs at the bottom since my rad is in the top of the case.

Very cool! I'll be running a dual loop so I'll be using 4 sets of QDCs in total including the drain lines.
