Gaming headset for ~200$ - Page 7

The onboard soundcard on the G35 headset is actually pretty good. I have the same headset right now, sounds better than what I currently have. It won't beat a highend $150-200 soundcard, but it is good nonetheless.

What should i buy then, for 150-200$ when i dont have a soundcard.
everyone recommends diffrent cards

If you liked the G35 headset, why can't you get another one or even see if you have a warranty on it to get it replaced. Mine has a limited lifetime I think, would have to look into it.

The G35 is a pretty good headset actually. I would get another one.

Hey, it seems you have started a thread asking for help buying headsets so you can talk to your guild while you play WoW. This is a helpful guide to bluntly state some of the finer points.

Let me get this out of the way quickly, straight up NEVER BUY A HEADSET. You may be asking, "Why?!" since virtually every uneducated fool has one. Well good thing I'm here, so I can teach you up.

Headsets are inherently a horrible idea because they combine piss poor headphones with a piss poor microphone and cost significantly more then they would cost separately, and I stress the significant part, its a joke. Not only do you get worse quality for the price, but because you are combining garbage parts with cheap wiring they are much more likely to break, and when they do, are harder to fix.

What you do want: A set of good headphones (depends on your budget), and a cheap desk mic. Personally, and many others on this forum will support this, I have the ATH AD700's. Great set of all around phones, perfect for listening to music and playing video games. They got decent bump, nothing that will blow you away, but their sound stage is incredible. They are open air though, so they do have some leakage.

Surround Sound... Since you have asked for headset help, it is also very likely that one of your criteria is that the headset you get recommended be Surround Sound because you think that will improve your piss poor kdr. First things first, you suck, accept that you are terrible at FPS games and move on. nothing will help that, no matter how much money you throw at it, I will always whoop that ass. But secondly, while the fact that it won't make you better is irrelevant, what is relevant is that fact that actual surround sound in headphones (putting multiple cheap drivers, all less then a half an inch from your ear) is only a gimmick, and a poor one at that. Not just a "oh it costs a lot and isn't that good" kind of gimmick. It actually adds NOTHING to your experience, gives you surround sound that can be less accurate then virtual surround sound with 2.0 headphones, and gives you significantly worse sound quality for the price, since you have very cheap drivers (there are 7 of them), and a cheap brand

If you still aren't convinced...lol go buy a razer, fatality, logitech, steelseries, turtle beach, etc and everytime you pick up those pieces of garbage I hope you are reminded of my post and your asinine decision.

I hate to break it to ya, but I have a G35 currently and the sound is very good. Just about every "LOL BAD HEADSET" I have had has had crisp 7.1 surround sound. I've even compared it to a friends set of headphones that he got for around $180 and they sound just as good.

Noise cancellation on the headphone and mic works just like those sets of Bose you can get for $200. Overpriced my ass.

That is your personal opinion, just like everyone elses. Just because you think that doesn't mean it is true, cause honestly it isn't.

^what grief said

I have a pair of AKG K 701s on the way with a Logitech USB desk mic. Don't get one of those clip on mics as they're a hassle to use. A Logitech USB desk mic is only 20 bucks and picks up sound perfectly. It sounds great for the price and is very simple to use. Also if you can afford it buy a sound card as it will vastly increase your sound quality.

What headphones were you comparing to?

Not all people choose to hear sounds the same way, so you may just be one of those people that cannot pick up the differences. I also believe its probably some selective hearing, you bought some expensive headset and want them to sound as good as a high quality headphones.

Depends on what you need, I haven't been reading the whole thread. I just skipped to the last page and some some misinformed comments.

I personally recommend the ad700's, I own them, they are open headphones but provide some of the best soundstage and separation on the market.

If you need a little more bass, hit up the m50's. There are other great brands as well seinheiser, akg, etc. Let me know what you need.

AKG 701's are a great set of headphones, I actually plan on upgrading to those next. I hope you got an amp or one built into your soundcard because those have a lot of resistance.
