Rig Freezes on stock settings

Thread Starter
Hi, my sig rig keeps getting freezing on stock settings, while playing games, and I'm not sure why. I have the cpu at 3.2 ghz and at 1.35 volts, and have the memory underclocked at 1.7v and 1333mhz, and also have the gpu's fans running at 50 percent to keep the temps down, so I'm not sure why this could be happening?

Suggestions? What should I troubleshoot to see what's wrong?

When the system freezes, it also makes the sound a constant bzzzzzz.

Not yet, did some Prime95 and LinX though for 5 minutes, and no freezes/bsod.

It's could be your memory. Download Super Pi and run a 32M test, then download wPrime and run a 1024M test. If it passes those without freezing or giving a BSOD your memory should be stable.

Super Pi:

wPrime:

It's only while playing games right? If so you might want to also stability test your graphics card with MSI Afterburner, it's also a good tool for overclocking your graphics card.

Afterburner:

Try to set the memory clocks/voltage back to stock.
Also, what are your GPU/CPU temps under load?

When I need to test memory, I always use Memtest86.

If I were you, I would download that and burn it to a disk. Usually, if you have bad ram, it will show it in the first few minutes. Also, I would run tests 5 and 8, as those are the ones that generally produce failures.

Also, when does it freeze? Is there anything in common for each time it freezes?

And finally, I would double check that everything in the computer is firmly seated (aka, the ram or GPU didn't get loose somehow), and that all drivers are good, because those can cause issues as well.

Good luck

Ok, well I tested the GPU with Furmark for around 45 minutes, no problems, highest temp was 59C.

Tested ram with memtest for around an hour, no problems.

Ran Super Pi 32m, no problems.

Only thing I haven't really tested is the cpu, except prime 95 for about 5 minutes, which resulted in no problems, but the cpu hit 61C max (I'm using the stock cooler right now).

I'll post results after testing with prime95/linx...

Does it only happen when you are playing games? Also, can you describe the freeze? Does it freeze as in you have to reboot to get everything back, or does it just spaz out for a second, only to come back in a few seconds?

I would check drivers as well, starting with video because of the circumstances.

Good luck

Tested for 5 minutes?? Are you kidding? Memory tests should be ran overnight.
