New HTPC build - Weird noises?

Thread Starter

So the parts arrived yesterday. Got everything put together. Everything's working fine, except for this stupid beeping (?) noise coming out of the motherboard (sounds like it could be coming from the CPU?). You can easily hear it in this video that I recorded:

It's not coming from a fan...

When the CPU is actually being used by something, it'll stop (prime95).

SO annoying! Can't figure out what it is or how to make it stop...

Supercase/Apex DM-317 w/275w PSU, 4GB RAM of some sort, MSI H67MA-E35, Core i3-2100.

commented on your other thread,

it sounds like coil whine to me rather than beeping, check if it's the PSU or mobo. Might need to RMA or return/exchange if it annoys you.

It's definitely coming from the motherboard near the CPU area.

Anything I can try to try and fix this? Never RMA'd anything before.

Usually easier to return/RMA if you don't know how to solder or spot the exact cap

It sounds to me like a capacitor is ready to pack it in.

If you say its coming from the motherboard then RMA it, its simple to do just get in touch with whoever sold you the board. If it was an online merchant just link them this thread and they have nice proof it doesnt work.

I went into the BIOS, set "Power Technology" to "Disabled" from the default "Custom", and it stopped. I'll live with it like this. Too lazy to RMA the board.
