Stock Overclocking

Thread Starter
I did a cheap little amd 940 3.0ghz quad core am2+ upgrade a day ago. It has the stock cooler. Is it safe to over clock with the stock cooler. ( I am not talking about extreme overclocking).

My rig
Amd 3.0ghz quad core
600 watt apevia psu
Ati 4870 matrix ( soon to be Nvidia 560 ti cu )
4 gigs 1066 ram.

You can, but you need to watch out for temps, don't let them go to high.

Also, be carefull with high OCs on a mATX board, if you don't have mosfet cooling you may loose your board. mATX boards aren't known to be good stgable overclockers... Just my 2 cents here..

But even just a slight overclock? Would it be safe?

With stock over clocking I would shy away from any more than 1-2 bumps on your vcore. See how far you can get it on stock voltage. You never know.

imho some mATX boards are better than others.... check specs and go from there
