NFS Shift 2 laggy as hell...

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I just installed Need for Speed Shift 2 on my sig rig and it is laggy as hell

I have all the latest drivers and runtimes. Shift 2 is patched to the latest version (1.01). I'm using Xtreme-G 275.65 video drivers.

Anyone has a workaround ?

Are you trying to run it at max settings? Shift 2 is quite graphically intensive, so if you're trying to max it out that could be an issue...

Is your GPU over clocked? If not, you can gain some good performance from that (750+ on the core would give a very nice boost) - also try using the best regular drivers.

Hi,
from my experience with nfs shift/shift 2 is that they use the cpu for physx, this bogs down my 3.8ghz phenom 965 and i get around 50% cpu usage and around 30/40% gpu which gives a right crappy fps, changing afinity lowers fps or keeps it the same but i never get a boost, some parts run okish but mostly its terrible, and 3d fps is at rock bottom unplayable for me.

3.4ghz i get same fps as 4ghz oc, this game really does suck, if we could turn physx off then i'm sure it would run very nicely.

My 470 SOC is @Stock for now (700MHz core). And yes I try to run it maxed out, I can run Crysis 2 w/DirectX 11 and HiRes Texturesmaxed out so I don't think it is the problem... I will try to lower settings...

The weird thing is that I get that heavy lag even on the main menu...

@OcSlave I will try to uninstall PhysX and see if this helps. By the way I have the new Quadro-prerelease PhysX 9.10.0514... Maybe I might try different drivers...

The game won't work without physx installed .
I took the game back and got a refund, managed to try the game last week with teh latest update and it was still a joke, i thought if only i had a 2500k i might get better fps but i see peeps with them having low fps aswell.

I think i remember it laggin allso in the menu's but i'm sure a alt/tab fixed this or a restart of the game.

I tried all drivers up dating back to over a year ago, all produced the same fps, its the cpu optimization thats the problem and not gfx drivers!
The game really does suck, for gods sake i wish the idiots that make these games would make pc games run smoother cos noway would i play a game on the xbox ect cos i can't play in stereoscopic 3d.

If your laggin on the menu though i would suggest trying another driver or if you have aa on turn it off in game or in ncp.
For me wether i'm at 800x600 or 1080p i still get same fps, lol at 800x600 i'm on 50%+ cpu usage, sub 20% gpu usage and a stupid 20-50 fps mostly in the lower 30's with vsync on or off!
For me there's no performance increases, installing a fresh copy of windows makes no fps increase.

I'm sure that one of the drivers i tested had laggy gameplay and laggy menu, if that was the case you will have to change driver, cant really remember as it was a few month ago and when i tryed it again last week i did'nt bother messing around anymore and just deleted the game again.

it feels a bit slow to me (installed it yesterday), but it could be that it's impossible to drive on a keyboard

Is Vsync enabled through the in-game menu? If yes, try disabling it there, and enabling it through Nvidia Control Panel instead. I've just run into that with a few games, though I don't have Shift 2. Dead Space did that to me though. If I enabled vsync in the in-game menu, massive lag, and nowhere near a constant 60 fps. Enabled through Control Panel works fine though for some reason, and sits at a constant 60 FPS without the lag.
