Watercooling in Lian Li K63

Im looking to go the watercooling route as im quite sick of my 6990 sounding like a jet, the case has room at the top for a rad so i was thinking of getting the XSPC Rasa 750 RX240 and mounting it up top and getting a seperate 120 and putting it either at the back or front of the case.

Firstly will that handle a 2600k and 6990, and im also thinking of adding a 6970 sometime later, im guessing ill need another 120 rad for that? i would get a 2nd 240 but i cant see it fitting inside the case, i guess i could add it outside somehow but not really sure.

And is that the best way to go with the XSPC watercooling system? Ive had a look into it for a few hours and this seems like the easiest/best starting point for someone new to wc.

you can fit a 280 in the top witha bit of modding. (from experience) there is enough room between the mobo to but the fans on the bottom in push position. Get a thin 280, because there is about 40mm of clearance before you hit the top panel.

and that plus a 120 in exhaust should be enough... I've also got a 120 from the front (using only a single hdd stand + 140mm -> 120 condensor.

define enough... the less rad surface area and fan airflow you have, the harder it is to remove heat from the water. Watercooling is essentially still aircooling from a physics perspective. The more rads you can fit the better.

I can tell you that just one 240 rad on a cpu was a bit of a let down. Now a 480 rad with 2 pumps is staying real cool where I originally expected it to be. Stepping up to a bigger setup is the way to go.

I myself wouldn't bother to run 2 gpus and a cpu with those rads, but i'm sure you could and i'm sure plenty of people have exactly that setup. It will just run a little hotter than if you had say 2x360s or something like that. If you're really serious, I'd recommend a proper case upgrade first and foremost. It is invaluable to have extra room.

It really annoys me when somebody asks a question about something and someone responds with:

"Oh nah sorry you need to upgrade your stuff, herp derp"

Why bother?

OP, my watercooling plan was this

wwhvw.png

I planned to have the 280 up the top outside the case frame under the plastic, with two fans (25mm max depth) pushing from underneath.

With the Rasa rad i want to drill holes beside the drive bay on the case floor and mount the radstand, then attach the Rasa rad to that.

Just some inspiration, hope this helped.

I dont really have enough money to be getting a better suited case etc, i just want the basic cooling to shut my 6990 up and ill be happy. Might not be the most practical case for it but ill make it work cool.gif

Yea i was thinking something like that, the optical bay up top cant be removed from the case right?

It only needs a few cm more for the rad to fit onto the front there, i was thinking of just putting the hdd's in the 2 top slots of it and cutting the last one off and just ditching the dvd drive cause i rarely need to use it.

I don't think so no. That would definitely work, find a 5.25>3.5 adapter and you'd be sweet >.< Only problem is that most reservoirs go in drivebays. Unless you want an EK multioption type res that would just be strapped onto your case somewhere random

they also make those tube reservoirs that are internal that look pretty cool. and some 45/90 degree fittings might make it so you wouldn't have to take out those bays entirely.

Where do you suggest one would put hard drives? I have a fan controller and i would be using a dual-bay reservoir frown.gif
