ALOT of WHS 2011 questions

Thread Starter
I built a server a little bit ago and have some questions.

1. I have a second HDD on my sig rig that is just pictures, music, videos, etc. etc. It's a 1TB and I also have another 1TB that I want to put into my server. I want it to make a automatic daily or weekly mirror backup of the drive from my sig to my server so that I can access it from other pc's.

2. I'd like to be able to make a full mirror backup of a pc over the internet. Like have my mom's pc backup to my server from her house incase something goes wrong.

3. I have remote web access setup and gave out logins to a few of my relatives to allow them to share pictures and family videos. I want to be able to see who is logged in, when they logged in, what they did, stuff like that.

4. The remote web access is through/from ww.*****.homeserver.com, is there a way I can fully customize this page. All you can do through WHS is change the background.

5. I have a netgrear WNDR3700 router, when setting up the server it gave me the option to let WHS configure my router. So I let it and it works fine. But the problem I have now is that if I take my friends laptop and type in my key to connect to my router it will connect but it won't give internet access until I go in and set a static ip. This is really annoying when someone just want's to hook up real quick to use the internet because I can't just give them the key. Also I have to remember to set it back to obtain ip address automatically before they leave.

I know this is alot to ask but I didn't want to make multiple treads. I appreciate anyone who has even read this far and is willing to offer any direction in helping me do/fix/understand what I need.

1. I don't really see a question, but yes you can backup your sig rig HDD.

2. This is unrealistic in a home environment because let's say your mom's PC just has Windows installed. That's 20-30GB she'll need to upload to your PC to make the backup. Going to take FOREVER on residential internet connections. Plus, if she is on Home Premium, she can't backup to networked drives with Window 7's backup tool.

3. Not sure about WHS 2011 specifically, but I'm sure there's tools/plugins for logging access.

4. Don't know since I haven't used WHS 2011 yet.

5. Do you mean you have to set a static IP to the laptop? Not sure why you aren't getting internet access if you are connected to the router.

When it backs up my OS HDD it's a single backup file. I want it to mirror a second drive that's in my sig rig to a drive in my server that I can have access to the files individually and not just a single backup file.

No biggie then

Yes I mean wireless, it's like my router isn't giving out ip addresses to devices. It connects to the network but doesn't allow it to the internet untill I set a static ip.
Thanks for your responses though, I appreciate it.

1. You'll have to look at other software(maybe WHS plugin) that will do the clone of your OS HDD. WHS will do the Windows Backup Image built into Windows 7.

5. Did WHS turn off the DHCP settings on your router? What you can try is turn DHCP back on the router so it assigns IP Addresses to connected devices and set a Static IP for the WHS. Not sure, but that may be it.

Great that you got #5 solved.

I looked into 3/4

3. There used to be a WEB LOGS plugin for the old WHS that would do what you are looking for, doesn't seem to be available for WHS 2011. Couldn't find anything else.

4. Same with this, there's a WHS Customizer 1.0.1 but all it really does is change the background. Seems the page is built into the software and isn't easily changed via HTML/CSS as far as I can see.
