new build sub 1000$

hey guys, I'm gonna go ahead and do like a bunch of people here and request your assistance in building a rig..

Contrary to my personnal pc, this one has a rather limited budget..

I've go to get this under 1000$ taxes and shipping included ideally, don't think I can bust that..

I need to factor in a screen, maybe a case but maybe not and let's just not look into keyboards and mice

this is for a kid and her mom.. the kid's playing combat arms and maybe it would be nice to show him what a pc can do (he's an xbox kid)

the mother's will be playing farmville and the likes on facebook

I was thinking of going sandybridge.. do we need to go all the way up to 2500k or 2300 can still be fine?

I'm a bit lost on the motherboard side.. I'm used to get Asus boards but maybe there's a cheaper board from another reputable manufacturer? I'm pretty sure that no overclocking will be done they are not knowledgeable in that field and I don't think they want to..

I don't know if an SSD could be managed in there but I think it would be nice.. But honestly I'm pretty sure they would be looking like this over the most basic computer you could help me build

so far I've done a bit of research on newegg.ca and I've come up with a 996$ build that has no RAM, no hdd and no optical drive lol.. need some help

thanks in advance guys and I hope I haven't forgot anything

when i have a specific budget, theres a website I go to, it gives sample builds for anything you want to spend

http://www.build-gaming-computers.co...-computer.html

They update every month, so youre sure to be future-proof for awhile

what do you guys think of this? with shipping and taxes it comes at $1,013.08 and there's 45$ worth of mail-in rebates to knock off that total price..

Forgot the hdd again lol

got some better suggestions guys?

with taxes and shipping it give me $1,022.95 for the pictured build.. (with 55$ worth of mail in rebates so technically 967,95)

What do you guys think about swapping out the spinpoint for an OCZ agility 2 60gb ssd and just get an ide to sata converter for their old hdd? It would cost $1,048.78 (993.78 with mail-in) I don't even think they're using 2gb worth of personnal files on their actual system lol

I haven't got a case in that build..

could I lower the wattage of the psu? to have some room($) for the case
post #7 of 13
No, 650W is the lowest id ever put into a build, because as you upgrade it, youll be getting closer and closer to maxing it out (though, if youre not planning on upgrading, you can go for a 600W)
And as this IS Overclock.net, if youre panning on doing any overclocking, spend the extra 10$ and get the 15-200K instead of the i5-2500

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...20231427-L011D

You can get 8GB of DDR3 1600 for a few bucks for with promo code EMCKBKF55. It comes in 2GB sticks and ull have to order two tho.

As for the power supply, unless he plans to SLI, he wont need more than 500W. I've read that a 2600k and GTX590 can run on an efficient 500W as long as they don't overclock or SLI.
