Can you plug Zalman VF3000F into PCB?

Thread Starter
I have a GTX470 with a Zalman VF3000F cooler on it. I have had the 3pin for the cooler pluged into my phantoms fan controller but it looks like I am seling it off to a mate that doesn't have and want to get a fan controller. Someone told me that you can plug the 3pin powering the cooler directly into the PCB and control it through a program like MSI Afterburner. Is this the case or do you still need a fan controller (btw I don't have the small controller the cooler came with)?

not sure about plugging it into the pcb but you can definitely plug it into the motherboard 3 pin.

Yes, you certainly can plug the VF3000F fan connector directly onto a motherboard fan header. Just bypass a fan controller (see pic 1).

For your motherboard, perhaps the best is CHA_FAN 2 header (see pic 2).

You can now control the fan speed within Asus BIOS/Asus in-house utility (eg AI Suite or Probe II)

PS: I do not think you can plug the fan connector into the card's fan header because they are most likely not of compatible size.
