2 idectical monitors but only 1 is recognizing correctly.....

Thread Starter
all of a sudden after a restart on of my monitors is being recognized as a generic Non-PnP Monitor...

I was somhow able to select 1920x1080 for the left monitor in windows but when gaming 1920x1080 is no longer an option in games where it once was....

both monitors are ASUS VH242H

i have tried changing to my other video card and moving the dvi connections around but nothing seems to work.

changed video card drivers and that didn't work.

i cant find drivers for the monitor anywhere... anyone know of a generic monitor that will allow my left monitor to be displayed like the right monitor is?

in the pics below you can see the differt names windows is giving the monitors. i just want the left one to display like the right one does.

Did you try turning it off and on again?

(it's a joke )

Seriously though, while your pc is turned on and the monitor is connected to it, unplug your monitor's power cord and then plug it back in. When i had this issue that fixed it for me.

Try....
Delete/uninstall monitor from device manager and rescan for changes or reboot, may help?
or
Goto device manager and install driver, browse for files on ya pc, click ya little windows that says " show compatible hardware " which will then list alot of manufactuers and drivers, goto asus on left hand side and look for your monitor and if its there install it ???

alright... windows isn't seeing the left monitor as a plug and play monitor! is there a way to fix this or is the monitor going bad?

could this be a issue with sli.. it seems the problem started when i added the second 470?

Have you tried clicking the "Detect" button in the window where you set your resolution? Also try setting Plug & Play to "Yes" in your BIOS.

Right then......

What i believe you will need todo is grab your working monitors edid using " Monitor asset manager " and save it as a inf, then goto device manager and install the driver/inf for the non working monitor, this will basicly copy over the info from the working edid/monitor to the non working edid/monitor and then i think your problem will be solved.

Link to moninfo, the app you will need.

http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm

I see you have alot of rep/posts so maybe you can do this on your own, if you need help just let me know.

Doing this will 100% make your pnp monitor the same as the others due to the edid overide , i can't say though wether or not you will have todo the edid with only 1 monitor???? and then install it once you have them all plugged in again.
