What's wrong with putting a disc into a disc drive when you want to play the game?
(I swear, these (insert insult here) are getting lazier and lazier.)

You picked Disc option instead of Online when you were installing the game

thats because BFBC2 isnt bound to a game manager so it requires disk. bf3 is going to have to be linked to origin in order to play it so even if you get the disk its going to do a digital download and update. Odds are you are going to have to be connected to the internet to play BF3 or else you will get a denial message.

I just prefer not to.

I remember when I used to play Commandos 3 which required the CD to play. After about 2 months playing the game I'd end up with scratches on the CD and sometimes the game would fail to start up. I would have to take the cd out and put it back in several times before it would work again.

Plus I'd rather not have to search through half my room just to find the CD every time I play. Things are either stored deep under boxes or lay around on my desk, which inevitably get moved which leads me having to search my room anyway

I have a feeling even with the physical copy you will probably have to have Orgin anyways, I'd bet $5 on it at least

If that is so, I'd still like to get the physical copy to keep as record.

If the situation does come (be out of laziness or forgetfullness) that I don't sign in with Origin for 24 months, at least I'll be gauranteed that I can use the Physical CD to re-instal the game.

The latter never asks for the disc again. Maybe BF3 asks the same thing, or maybe it just assumes online authentication, given its link with this Origin!?
This 100%. Nowadays if a game makes you insert your disc before you play, it's to ensure you copy is a legitimate one and hasn't been pirated. Otherwise you won't be asked to do such a thing. Anyway, there are two likely senarios if you buy the retail copy:
  1. When you finish installing the game, you will be asked if you want to have your install authenticated through a disk check or an online check every time you run the game.
  2. You will have to run the game through Origin regardless. The only benefit you reap by buying the retail copy is that you don't have to download a 10+GB game because it's on the disc.

Yep, I'm fully anticipating this, although I'm still hoping otherwise.

right after E3 Futureshop had a deal if you pre-ordered 3 games you get 20 bucks off each! Grabed Deus Ex, BF3, and MW3 for like 110 bucks, only downside being they probably wont ship them till launch day and then it will probably be 2-3 days before I get them
