[MMO] WoW Lost 300k Subscribers - Page 15

WoW doesn't need to end. The people who have been playing it for 4-5 years are moving on since the game is in essence the same. There's nothing wrong with this, its the same with all games, you do eventually get bored or start to concern yourself less with something after doing it for so many years. To new players starting WoW they will find the game as good as we all did when we first started and will enjoy it for a long time.

I'm one of those who left. I played for ~ five years straight, and finally left when Rift came out. I played Rift for a bit but left it for the same reasons I left WoW.

WoW is just past its prime. There really isn't anymore that they can do with the game besides re-skinning. Yeah new raid boss, but taking down this boss isn't any different than taking down that other raid boss, or the one from four years ago. Questing, woo, instead of killing level 40 fublogs for their skin, I get to kill level 80 murlocks for their eyes! Its not that WoW sucks, it doesn't, its just the stuff you're doing is the same stuff, re-skinned, or an added extra like able to use a mount, you already done 10,000 times. Innovation has come to a halt.

I got tired of the game feeling simple~ to the degree death was considered even less of an inconvenience. I just never felt this real need for gear. With PvE gear being separated from PvP~ I lost my motivation to raid, and even if I had the purples, the world content could easily be done naked~ so I just didn't 'feel' any growth after Wrath of the Lich King. Cataclysm brought that same experience from 1-60~ (well it was like that due to patches around 3.0 anyway~) so meh. It's not just that I got tired of it, the game moves on to make people who weren't me happy~ so whatever. I hope someone enjoys it, I just couldn't anymore.

Hard to say. WoW is an old breed of a game, I remember back in 2004 one of WoW's most "amazing" things was it's graphics! As far as visuals go, a new player won't be impressed as much as a new player in 2004 (unless they've been living under a rock).
BUT Blizzard have greatly stepped-up the quality of leveling and made it a viable option to level as almost any spec, most importantly you instantly gain your "unique" aspect at only level 10. There hasn't been a better time to join the game IMO, just make sure you pick a decent faction on a decent server. Oh and don't do any sort of PvP at low levels. That's one thing Blizzard don't give two cents about and you'll most likely get your butt handed to you by a 1-shotting BoA-geared rogue.
Also there's the whole free-to-play till lvl 20 thing.

If they're smart they've been working on World of Warcraft 2 for the past 3 years now.

Even on the forums/mmo-champion there are players moaning about how they want the Raiding gear but don't want to raid. These are the people Blizzard are catering for, the players who want everything handed to them on a platter.

That and the PvP balance was abysmal, nothing more rage inducing losing to an undergeared, underskilled, keyboard-turner just because he manages to turn round before you can burst him down and hit his 2/3 button 'I WIN' combo.

I personally enjoyed the levelling experience, now it's all just too fast so they can pump out the end game content.

I quit back in December 2007, due to everything in the game taking so much time to do to gain any actual results. University and girlfriend were already time-sinks.

I'm a huge lore nerd, but it's just easier to read WoWpedia.
The best three things about the game for me were the social aspect (questing together), lore and sandbox-ness. Most of the social questing ended when TBC dawned, as I had had a 6 month break earlier and all my friends were already in their 70s when I turned 61. As a demo warlock I could nicely solo most group quests too, but it got boring.
