Typing tests are inaccurate and an improper way to test your true wpm in my opinion. For one, I noticed that my wpm is slower during a test because i cant look at the keyboard, and because the test TELLS me what to type, i dont think of it. Your naturally faster at typing what you want, not a random list of words that a computer generates for you. Also considering i always look at my keyboard when i type cause its just my style, its around 15wpm faster then not looking. So, i personally dont believe in typing tests. I think the only real way to test your wpm is to yes, take a typing test, but add to your final score because again, u dont type as fast when a computer generates words for you opposed to you thinking of the sentence. At the end, you'll never have a 100% real answer on your wpm, but you'll have a good estimate range. Thats just how i feel.

Nope. I type like a gamer. My left hand rests on WASD, my right hand wanders all over the place.

No, they're fairly accurate and even if they weren't they still would be useful for comparison purposes. I can type faster when typing words out my head as well, that isn't the point.

...and now you know why touch typing is superior to using just four fingers and having to eyeball the keyboard while typing. Maybe your teacher had a point after all?

I can easily type 100wpm without looking at my keyboard if i wanted to, but yer failing to see the point... i CHOOSE to not look at the keyboard. I rather type 5x faster then my professor then starring at the monitor while i here clicks....

I failed 2 of my typing classes in elementary school because I didn't position my hands correctly and my hands moved around too much. Although I was a pretty quick typist and still to this day I type how I did back then and I'm far from a "Proper" typist, but in my own sense and world, I'm a perfectly "Proper" typist..

Eventually, I'll learn how to type with all fingers but for now, I'm surviving just okay with my index, middle finger and thumb (per hand). I know when I've hit the wrong key even before I see it on the screen because it just feels different. I'll train my other fingers eventually lol. I don't know how fast I type yet. Hmmm, lemmie do a quick type racer and find out...

Yeah, even though I don't type properly I do type at least 70wpm without too many errors. I never have to look at the keyboard either.

See, that I can believe. Even if somebody doesn't type "properly" as long as they are using a system that doesn't require eyes on the keyboard then they're good to go. If somebody has to watch their fingers while typing then they're only hurting themselves by being too obstinate to learn a better way of doing things.
