What problems? How do you know if aliens come they will cause MORE problems? You realize in 50-100 years, our civilization will have the technology to travel through some distances in space, possibly colonize habitable planets/moons, and contact ETs. This is for the future, and if you say otherwise, I don't think you understand the grandeur of something like this.
Not to mention it's only $200,000 for Christ's sake. The US govt. has misplaced $2 billion in the past, but I don't see anyone pissing about that.

When you find alien life we will have no way to communicate - they will likely speak in a competely different type of language, we won't share the same knowledge, and likely won't even share anywhere near the same technology. Not to mention they most likely will not look human. What are the chances of us sitting down with them and figuring each other out peacefully? We can't even get along with some of the other races on own planet.
Not trying to put a nail in this coffin, just stating my opinion.
You're very far from putting the nail in the coffin I'm afraid. Who says every single ET race out there is malevolent and simply looking to conquer distant worlds? That's pretty much where your argument begins and ends. There could be a myriad of different reasons for an intelligent race to contact us and vice versa. If they're as intelligent and far along as we perceive them to be, then surely they have come pretty far along philosophically, and aren't here to conquer every corner of the known galaxy. I understand your point of view, but it seems a little extreme to me that we face extinction for simply communicating with a different species.Edited by bovice163 - 8/4/11 at 9:33am
