SETI does not tell us everything, they have had intelligent signals but not told us about them, do you really think they would tell the world they have recieved signals from an intelligent civilization? No.

Pretty much.
Everytime somebody brings up the topic of aliens coming here, folks always think humans are so useless and weak.

Pretty sure if we had the tech to find them, we have the tech to handle them if they got out of line.

Not to mention, any alien race with near-light speed travel tech will surely have mastered automated production.

When you find alien life we will have no way to communicate - they will likely speak in a competely different type of language, we won't share the same knowledge, and likely won't even share anywhere near the same technology. Not to mention they most likely will not look human. What are the chances of us sitting down with them and figuring each other out peacefully? It would take years, and chances are they would rather just take our resources. We would be inferior species to their eyes. We can't even get along with some of the other races on own planet.

Not trying to put a nail in this coffin, just stating my opinion.
Quoted for truth.

Imagine you're a superior alien intelligence, possibly an aggressive one at that? Better yet, imagine you're us, but smarter and way more advanced and you discover an inferior, violent and stupid alien race that is on the brink (relatively) of destroying not only themselves, but also their planet and it's vast resources. What would you do?

I'm pretty sure we would colonize and destroy. And I think the idea that we'd find a species of equal or greater intelligence who would also have MORE compassion than we have as a species would be extremely unlikely.

If anything, I think we're more likely to find insect-like aliens that don't have compassion at all, a la Zerg.

We could very well be weak relative to a civilization millions of years old. My point wasn't that we could take them if they came. My point is they wouldn't come from some natural resource. Any civilization advanced enough to travel through space probably doesn't need to pillage inhabited planets for resources, they could just take resources from the millions of uninhabited ones.

I'm not sure why you think that would likely be the case. Again any species that can travel here is probably pretty old and advanced.

Nobody really knows though. Seeing as how it hasn't happened yet, it's 100% speculation at this point.
And if some sort of large scale invasion did take place, mankind would likely have a fail-safe to shoot down any incoming invaders.

Probably the same tech used to shoot down asteroids just a bit more advanced.

I disagree. Imagine that this race has the capability of outlasting humans, and is in peril themselves from an actual aggressive species of ETs. You would think they would be more motivated to teach and show us some of the secrets to their advanced technology and knowledge, simply to have a powerful ally in the future. I know it's out there, but a lot of these comments of, "if we make contact we get destroyed lolz" said so matter of factly as if they were truth, is ridiculous imo. The amount of resources it would take to simply invade and attempt to colonize Earth, as well as be able to take incredible amount of casualties, would be incredible.

Not to mention that if they have the technology to come to our planet then they probably don't need to enslave the human race as a means of doing work. They probably have drones/nanobots or some other form of advanced automated workers that would be hundreds of times more efficient than humans.
