At the end of the day, very few people will truly know whether BF3 will be good or not until its released. Remember an Open Beta, or god forbid a closed Alpha, are not Demos for the game, and are never a good representation of the game. If you love the closed Alpha, that doesn't mean you will love the retail game. So much can change. Also at the end of the day, if you like the Alpha, as an Alpha build, you would likely not if it where the release state of the game.

Forcing people to Pre-order and gamble their money to get an overpriced map pack (that is already in development and looks incredibly like a money grab DLC) for free, is not okay. Not to mention a lot of people could fail to find out about this offer, just out of bad luck, and end up being asked to pay and extra $15 down the road.

While there is truth to this, it is NOT a license to gouge the consumer. At the end of the day it can happen, but there always must be a happy medium. There are ethics in business, despite what most companies portray.

On this we agree. If the Micro transactions are not "purchasable power" as in Diablo 3, from what we know now, then I absolutely support this.

Of course, in theory I don't mind CoD's model either. Its the quality of each year's installment being relatively the same every year that bothers me.
I get what you're saying about pre-ordering being a gamble. It SORT of is, but I'm pretty sure 98+% of the customers have absolutely no doubt about BF3 being amazing. That said, how is it any different from buying the game after release? You can't just simply return the game once you've tried it, so it's still a gamble to spend $60 on it, except if you spend it sooner, before the game releases, you get extra maps (awesome maps, mind you) from BF2 redone in BF3.

The way I look at the situation is: be glad they're letting us all know about the definite map pack NOW, ~6 months before release (known since March), and giving us the opportunity to pre-order and get it for free, versus Activision's way: Let's release Black Ops, and in a few months, SURPRISE BUTT SECKS!!! Release a small map pack for $15.

And the thing is, they could literally re-make BF2 in DX11 with maybe a few extra guns here and there - and it would sell millions.

But really, if you're even on the fence about this game, may as well pre-order - if you don't activate it until after it gets out and you see some reviews and decide it's not for you, sell the key.

I for one will probably play nothing else but BF3 for the first 4-6 months that it's out....been waiting since 2005/2006 for this iteration of BF to come to life.

I mean, why wouldn't they, they're in the business of making money, and they could certainly make a lotta money that way.

I look at the move to "give" the pre-orderers "extras" as an acknowledgement by EA that their game blows, and there's no way in hell anybody would want to buy it after they learn what a pitiful piece of crap it is, so they're trying to sucker people into buying now.
I think BF3 will be a full game in the sense that Mass Effect 2 was a full game compared to Mass Effect 1. What I mean is EA owns a bunch of studios and when one makes a hit the next one seams to have a different kind of approach to DLC, pricing and on-line play.

I'm sure the game won't blow but I certainly lost my interest in pre-ordering and playing it right away.

I find the extremist tone of some of these posts is comical. I hate to break it to you, but I think your rant is null and void if you type out 7 paragraphs and think that charging for content is "evil". Killing people for enjoyment in real life, is evil. Raping children is evil. The devil is evil. Charging for content that many are willing to pay for is not evil, its called generating revenue.

TONS of games charge for map packs, and DLC and the like. I didn't think anything of COD charging for map packs. Thats called making money. Its cool. I like to make money for stuff I do too. It has been happening in games for YEARS on the PC. Its not a new trend or a revelation of gaming impurity raining down on us. lol

Seeing as I pre-ordered this game. I don't see an issue here. I bought BC2 without pre-ordering and it was a great game. BF3 is a slam dunk for me and I know it will be better than BC2. For those that are having problems with this being priced DLC, why does it matter? If you are going to buy the game, then just pre-order it. If you plan on buying the game without pre-order, than that is your problem.

One more time in bold type caps YOU ARE GETTING A FULL GAME!!!!!!!!!!!
You're really trying to go caps? relax kid, it's a topic in a forum. We can post our points of view no matter how childish or idiotic so please just relax.

Bottom line is to those who did not pre-order it is not a full game, not when they have to purchase said map pack etc after the games release. It is a full game to those who know better than to wait but not to those who rather pick up Call of Duty then decide they want to pick up BF3. They end up being short one of the best maps in all of FPS'dom [ yeah I just did that ] etc. Then the feeling of being somehow cheated sets in and a bad taste ensues.

It is a business, I agree and this is the way things are going to go from now on with releases. Anyone remember BFBC2 limited edition? OH man it is gonna be sold out! nah, 17 copies sitting in Gamestop waiting to be had. Same will happen with BF3 I hope.

Seriously? You're on the fence about the game, and their greed is actually convincing you to pre-order?
Well most likely the game is going to be baller and everybody who considers themselves a PC gamer will have to own it. Doing that math and knowing that these will be some of the best maps kinda makes it make most sense to pre-order.

In conclusion, DICE and EA have a firm grasp on PC gamer's balls.
