Ported from what? This aint CoD, this isn't an engine that's been reused to death, this is brand new, extremely large and so not ported.

These maps are friggin' huge, and even more hugely detailed compared to the tiny CoD maps everyone has gotten used to, if you've never played BF, you've got no right to whine nor comment on the price for Karkand, as you've no idea what you're paying for.

People moan about the CoD franchise being overused and prices for this and that, 'cos they're using the same old tools, the same old engine, the same old people, and just essentially reskinning and calling it a new game.

Do you think BF3 is some rehash of BF2? They just made it prettier? LOL!

I payed for 1942 quite happily, payed for BF2 and expansions (didn't get them all though), I payed for BF2142 (and they have my money for the new BF2142 successor already) & Northern Strike, it was epic.

Development costs alone for BF3, salary costs, equipment costs, time spent making the game what it is, bringing in the dude that did the original Karkand especially for it, all that adds up, and they need to meet and beat CoD financially to be a success and keep developing epic games for us.
CoD is reskinning and milking the same old thing for the same money over and over, BF1942, BF2, BF2142, BF3 they're all one-off games.

Also keep in mind the popularity of consoles over the last few years, the amount of revenue they bring, how many people are gonna fork out for a console that they know people have, than over a PC.

They developed BF3 entirely for PC users, so we can get the most outta our systems, stop your whining and feed the people who are gonna bring the PC back into the limelight.

I dont get how some people spend hundreds of dollars on a gaming rig, and then whine about a $15 DLC that is currently free if you pre-order, and Im completely sure it will absolutely rock.

And hotcarl tell me your the same hotcarlmalone from xtc in bf2
edit: Not gonna continue this obviously childish little situation although I could keep going for many posts to come.

It is not an argument as I am not trying to persuade you of anything as I don't care if you accept my conclusion or not. This thread has turned into more of people venting their frustrations which I am doing as well.

Want to get the expansion with the pre-order? by all means go for it. Want to wait when it is 14.99 by itself? go for it. It is the way of the future to get less than you pay for obviously, so might as well suck it up now.

I dont get it either. How can anyone even begin to compare COD to BF series, gameplay styles asside.

Dice has spent literally years (5) developing a new engine to bring new gameplay, graphics, and animation to the gaming community. Treyarch/Infinity Ward has DONE NOTHING but rehashed the same damn game engine OVER AND OVER. Technically, with Activision, a new game IS EQUIVALENT to a BF map pack, yet no one complains about paying $59 for it.

THE day-one DLC is mainly inplace for:
1) Continued revenue after game is resold
2) Increase Day-1 sales

After Alpha testing I have no regrets preording this game back in May. IMO, Dice has really delivered to the PC community. Also, after Alpha testing I was able to stomach 1 last match of BLOPS.

PS - Can anyone remember the how long it took Activision to patch COD-Blops for the PC ... after they had a patch for XBox 360.... no thank you.

I don't want you to misunderstand my post - I'm extremely excited for BF3 and have loved every BF game since 1942. But the four maps are old, they've been in existence since 1942/2 and though they are great maps, 15 bucks does seem a pretty high price for 4 maps we've seen before, unless of course they also come with new vehicles, weapons, etc.

$15 for an expansion.. and people are complaining? Wow. What did you guys expect?

Also, a literal "lol" at the people suggesting the map was "ported" from BF2. You'll have to show how they did that, I'm genuinely interested.

They do have new weapons/vehicles, not to mention destruction.

Large amounts of derp in this thread.

This is not a map pack, it is an expansion pack with only 4 maps. It is JUST like BC2:Vietnam and has its own weapons, soldiers, vehicles, achievements, and probably buildings. It is being released AFTER BF3, but DICE is throwing it in for LE/pre-orders for free.

Paying $15 for a few maps in CoD, or for a 1 hour mission in ME2 is completely different than this. Its basically the same as BF2: SF but with fewer maps. Problem with SF? Nope.
