They're old, agreed, but they're also fan favourites so became a classic. If they put them in the game, we'd have nothing "Special" outside of the game and the maps that come with, and people would complain about limitedness over time, even with an outstanding game, it's the way society has become, so they've thrown in some classic maps to get people blood brewing and create more hype.
I remember when we got Wake Island etc. for 2142, everyone was going nuts over having classic maps for 2142.

It's a business, a very lucrative one, and he who comes second best, isn't good enough.
I'd gladly pay for an updated, amazingly detailed and designed game, that happens to have some extremely classic maps, just the ability to reminisce justifies it, let alone the effort that's gone into the updated versions of said maps.

Kinda like the newer Dodge Charger, Mustang, Camaro. People are paying for old cars they've seen before.

That's the difference between something that's Classic, and something that's old.

It's not like the same with CoD where the engine hasn't changed substantially since 2007 that the old maps take a lot of work to code in, its substantially more work to recreate these maps from a very dated engine to one with full destruction, lighting etc. (i.e BF2 --> BF3) as well as port in the old weapons and vehicles.

The exclusive guns have already been confirmed to release after the game launches. And the online-pass, well, I dunno about you, but when I go into stores, I always see a large pre-owned collection of games and no collection of other media; that would suggest to me that the pre-owned game market is larger, therefore more money lost through it or whatever.

Most of the ME/DA dlc can go die in a fire though. Horrible value for money. As is most day-one DLC but with this one I can understand that more work went into them than with most DLC's.
This,

This is not a map pack, it is an expansion pack with only 4 maps. It is JUST like BC2:Vietnam and has its own weapons, soldiers, vehicles, achievements, and probably buildings. It is being released AFTER BF3, but DICE is throwing it in for LE/pre-orders for free.

Paying $15 for a few maps in CoD, or for a 1 hour mission in ME2 is completely different than this. Its basically the same as BF2: SF but with fewer maps. Problem with SF? Nope.

I was on the fence about pre-ordering, and this has just convinced me to NOT pre-order the game. I'll consider picking it up a while after it comes out if it's cheap enough. I paid a full $50 for Bad Company 2, and less than a year later a bunch of my friends got it for various amounts under $10 ($7.50, $5, etc).

planned DLC before the game is even launched. Any game with DLC has planned DLC before the game launches. EA and Dice are just using it as a promotion for pre orders.

Uh, you do realize that these maps aren't just "ported," right? They're built from the ground-up, and started development late last year using Frostbite 2.0. It's not like COD where they literally rip a map out from a previous game and throw it into a new one. These maps are re-imagined, fully built from the ground up and use all the beautiful tech that's encompassed in FB2.0.

Not to mention this expansion will have it's own vehicles, etc.

Is that not really bad logic? You're going to to play the beta, an unfinished version of the game to make sure it runs OK? You realise betas and alphaswill always be broken/not running perfectly...

Another classic OCN'er. Didn't actually read the source...

Does anybody remember when expansions didn't come until months after a game was released?
