Hello, All!

A year ago, my phone died and i bought a cheap samsung GoPhone to use as with my family plan through att. It works just fine. I have X amount of minutes per month and unlimited texting on all phones on the plan. I do not have a data plan and have no desire of getting one.

I am interested in buying the LG Thrive. It's a GoPhone with android 2.2. I am wondering if i buy the Thrive and put my simcard in it, will att start charging me for a data plan? Ive been told that data plans are mandatory for smart phones, even though you can turn the feature off and use wifi on most phones.

Part of the reason I want a smart phone is develop apps with a few friends from school. The rest of the reason is to have something to play around on.

btw, I know someone is going to reply saying that "smart phones are pointless without data service, etc." That's not my point. I want the fun of android without the expense of the data plan. I believe this should be possible, even though it seems providers do not think this is possible (or maybe do not want it to happen...)

Thanks for any help,
That0therGuy21
