Catalyst 11.7 causing problems for anyone? - Page 3

The process gets terminated after about 1/2 a second. It's like it's impossible for me to get eyefinity working again.
This happens to me on occassion, the CCC part. It's a rare occurrence, in fact, but there's a few hypotheses and proposed solutions. In fact, there's probably a variation of underlying causes (related to whatever Windows edition, settings, or service packs thus implemented) and thus a diverse means of addressing them. Here's a solution that has, far as I can tell, the best potential of resolution:

Quote:
This is an old thread, but it's one of the top search results for "ccc won't run" so I wanted to post another possible solution here. My solution was to clear out the Windows GAC (Global Assembly Cache). In Windows 7, you can browse directly to "C:\\Windows\\assembly". Sort by "Public Key Token", then delete everything with the Token "90ba9c70f846762e" (ATI's key). You'll obviously need Administrator privileges. No reboot needed either. Reinstalled CCC and it ran perfectly!

The GAC lets you share DLL's that are the same version number. If it's in the GAC, any installer will NOT install a new DLL - it'll use the one in the GAC. If the GAC DLL is corrupted, you're majorly SOL.

When I reinstalled the CCC, it took longer to install then it had before. Presumably, this was due to the installer copying all the correct DLL's to my hard drive. And no ATI DLL's have made it back into my GAC.
Somewhat ironically, I've never been able to find the repository keys detailed & thus never used this method to correct the vanishing CCC & MOM executables in task manager. I have always, though, rectified the problem with a single attempt by downloading the registry cleaner release from Von's Mod.

First step: access programs/software of the Windows control panel. Select "CATALYST APPLICATION MANAGER" and utilize express uninstall.

Second step: also, uninstall various application profiles.

Third step: Reboot in safe mode. Hop into the device manager, & be certain to uninstall/delete software/drivers for whatever GPU(s) installed.

Fourth step: Use GPU registry key cleaner.

Fifth step: Download latest driver sweeper. Dump all the AMD excesses thus remaining. Reboot.

Final: Install 11.7 or 11.8, either custom or express. Install CAPs. Reboot, & CCC should be available without a hitch.

Good luck, brother.

Turns out that BC2 was crashing because I had Afterburner running in the background. I'm relieved because I was thinking that either I had a defective card or my PSU wasn't cutting it.

Yeah... it is well documented that afterburner + BC2 is a big no no because of punkbuster.

dx11 and bc2 and 11.7 have issues.
dx 10 and 9 should work as usual.

I'm having issues with 11.7 - I get lockups often (Like once a day).

Gonna see about going to 11.8 or rolling back to 11.6

This is a Myth.

To solve it, close Afterburner, than go to MSI Afterburner file directory and rename "RTcore.cfg" to something random like "omdsad.cfg"

Enjoy

And @topic.

I'm having issues with 11.7 on BC2 / dirt3/ JustCause.

Lookups and low performace....

Should i go to 11.8 or roolback to 11.6?

You're right. I was able to play for about day without any lockups but since then I've been experiencing them left and right without Afterburner running in the background. I used to think that people were exaggerating when they said that AMD/ATI drivers generally suck, but now I'm starting to think they were on to something. The funny thing is, I love my 6950s but not being able to play for over 30 minutes at a time without my comp freezing kinda puts a damper on things.

renaming the RTcore.cfg file disables some hardware monitoring features from afterburner you can read more about it here http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/996...mpany-2-a.html . Also if you haven't already you should disable ULPS http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/667...ling-ulps.html. I had the same problems with my 6950s and got rid of them.
