0xa0000001 BSOD code (caused by atikmdag.sys) on Radeon HD 5870

Hi all

First of all, sorry for my bad english, Im spanish and I cant express myself very well in english so sorry if any sentence is poorly constructed

A few minutes ago, I have had a BSOD while playing DiRT3. After playing it for about 1 hour, the screen became grey and the sound freezed, and a few seconds later I got the BS and the pc restarted

more information about the bluescreen (click it to see in full size):

pd6RJl.jpg

its not the first time that happens, I have had similar problems two times more than a month ago (the other times I restarted the computer when the screen became grey or red and I didnt wait for the bsod, so I dont have the crash information)

I dont know if it is a drivers problem, a hardware problem or a software problem (Im without antivirus protection but using the internet responsibly, and malwarebytes doesnt detect any malware) because I dont know the meaning of the blue screen code and the parameters, thats why I ask you for help

what can be the problem? can it be overheating due to the summer temperatures? (I consider that possibility, tomorrow Im going to clean the filter of the 20cm case fan) or more probably driver or hardware problems? whats the meaning of the information I got from BlueScreenView? what should I do?

Thank you very much

PD: For those who dont want to read the whole post, all the relevant information is in the 2nd paragraph and in the image, the rest are only additional details

i would start with re-installing your drivers, and making sure they are up to date.

i have had BSOD with the atikmdag, and i had to roll back to the previous version, until they released a fix

OK I will proceed to update the graphics drivers, after removing the installed ones (11.6) using driver sweeper, the problem is that it happens so infrequently that I wont know if that solved the problem until a month or two later

thank you very much for the fast responses biggrin.gif

PD: I bought the pc components about a year ago, but the graphics card was replaced by warranty (for 2nd time....) by january or february (I dont remember), and I still havent cleaned it, should I clean it? or cleaning the case fan filter will be enough to prevent overheating?

This morning, I have formatted the HD (I didnt have any important information and it costs less than half an hour to format and reinstall Windows, so I decided to do it to avoid any software problem) and installed the latest version of the AMD drivers, and I also cleaned the anti-dust filter of the case

I will tell you here if I still get any bluescreen (It can be a month later)

I sincerely appreciate the advice that you both (Nineteeneleven and Kmon) have given to me, but if someone also helps me to understand the crash report and have any clues of the cause it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

If the card isn't overclocked then this is the issue. I have had TONES of issues with my drivers even at stock.... it is why I went nvidia.

Don't use driver sweeper, just use the amd installer. I dont know why, but driver sweeper seems to cause a lot of problems. I've just been installing over my old drivers and have had far fewer issues.

I hope you're right, I already have had some hardware problems with my HD 5870 (I replaced it by warranty 2 times...) and I dont want to have more... hope it was only a software issue (it seems to be the most likely)

oks wink.gif, thanks for the info. Anyway, this time I didnt use driver sweeper because I just reinstalled windows and installed again all the drivers and applications
