If it's the true PC game that they say it is (as PC is the lead platform), than it'll have a longer lifespan than 2 years. Look at BF2. Know why? We may never get a REAL PC shooter ever again.

lol from a dev that released 9 stand alone Battlefield games in 10 years, that's not saying much.

Battlefield games do have mod tools. They just aren't used because the community made better ones.

No Battlefield game has every SHIPPED with mod tools, and on top of that, I don't believe any mod tools were made by DICE. So, crying about "oh noze! no mod tools!" in BF3 is just jumping on the bandwagon of babies.

lets hope they plop a nice patch this nov. to allow a custom version manager for guns specs and "physx"on our servers , jfc that would make my holidays after an expected purchase of bfbc(3)

could have just made after set amount of realistic or non realistic stats of guns atleast to remain the same after every version.

tdlr DICE .... please fix issues on your past dropping before dropping some more on us on NOV , aleast for the holly days this year.

I think it would tail off a bit if BC3 is developed the same way.
But if BC3 is another polished port then BF3 will last much longer.

Yes they were, for BF1942 and BF2. All the other games were made with the same engines (Refractor 1 and 2) so mod tools weren't necessary for them. It's just the Frostbite games that don't have official mod tools, or public server files, which is what's going to stop any community made mod tools from being developed (can't make or host mods without server files).

For 1942 at least, I believe the mod tools did not ship with the game at first. The community created them and they were later bundled with the complete edition of the game. I've heard the same is true for BF 2.

For BF1942, Dice hired the guy who made the mod tools and made them official, if that's what you mean. Not sure about BF2.

This doesn't make mod tools, or at least the possibility of mod tools, any less a tradition for BF, they hire the modders ffs. Like I said above, I really don't see how you can make mod tools without access to server files, or host them. That's why Dice is essentially killing mods for BF3.

I can see where you're coming from... lets just hope our modding community finds a way around it, as they shouldn't be underestimated. Just think, BF3: Project Reality... that would be something pretty amazing.

I'm not underestimating anyone, mods for BF3 cannot happen (legally and practically) as long as modders don't have access to the server files.
