Hey all,

My gtx 580 superclocked isn't cutting the cheese when it comes to RIFT. I get mostly 20-35 fps at maxed settings.

My question is this: a second gtx 580, or a gtx 590? My experience with sli was 2x470's with an amd 955. I had to sell that gpu set up, bad stuttering. Do you think with the more powerful 2600k, combined with two 580's would cause stuttering? will the 590 since its 2 physical gpu's?

It's not you, its rift. Bad optimization or some such. I have tried the game on various setups and some areas of the game just lag. I don't know whats causing it though, sorry.

If you're going to upgrade, go with another 580 since the 590 is just a pair of underclocked 580s.

I have to agree, this game was not built for actual game play, I swear they wanted to build this amazing looking game that is not playable. I don't think it is your gear I think it is their game/lag issues.

How does it do on other games?

If you are going to run SLI go with another 580 SC, great cards in SLI.

I played rift fine on my gtx 560, I had the settings mostly maxed out. I think there was a super sampling setting, or something like that that I had turned off though.

It runs absolutely fine if you can turn a setting down or two, the one that I had turned off didnt seem too make the game look any better anyway. You dont need too spend hundreds of dollars on new hardware just because you dont want too turn a setting down.

By the way 2x gtx 580s>gtx 590. Especially considering youve already got one of them.

it does excellent in other games. runs everything at max settings including post processing effects in the nvidia control panel like 4xTSAA, High Quality filtering etc...

rift is the only game it has trouble with, not too sure that its just bad optimization, because in low pop areas, the fps goes way up to 45-60.... I havent had a single issue with stuttering. I only did when I had an overlay for Mumble which made my games skip every second.

That really isn't much of an OC, plus the 2600k should go to 5.0 without even trying so it is not like you are beating up the chip.

Have you tried to play at factory CPU speed, i.e. 3.4 GHz? Do you notice stuttering then?

If you don't mind can you drop it to factory, go in and see if you are still getting those issues.

Can you post your in-game settings you are running? I have heard a lot of people having similar issues you are, as a matter of fact my neighbor has the same issue with a pair of 6950's. It happens for him from time to time still, and he isn't OC'ing his 2500k much either.

Like I said, I have a single 580. cannot test stuttering without a second card.

The in game settings go like this: Take every slider and move it all the way to the right LOL, fully maxed with SSAA on. Thats where the big performance hit comes from, when ssaa is disabled, the game is a fluid 45-60 fps.

How does it play for you now? Just the 20-35 FPS? Plays smooth?

If you add a 2nd card you are going to beat the hell out of that game, you shouldn't have any issues with stuttering if you aren't now. I do know some have had issues with the newest patch and stutter that is what I thought you meant, I just re-read your first post again. You should be fine, esp with a 2600k
