Dell m1330 LCD dim, help - Page 3

1. Typically there are a few small bulbs (long, kinda look like flourescent bulbs) behind the LCD panel that provide lighting. Im not sure if when you replaced the LCD you replace the entire Section (screen + Housing) or just the screen. May be worth investigation.

Edit: see this was already suggested

2. Have you tried connecting the laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue persists?

3. Also
"The sensor that tells it when the lid is closed might be stuck. This happened to my mom when she put an american flag sticker on her Thinkpad, up near the hinge. Her laptop lives on a desk and goes months without being closed, so when she folded it up to take it to a conference, it was the first time in ages. The sticker got pushed in against the sensor and continued depressing the sensor even after the screen was opened again.

Upon arriving at the conference, the screen would flicker on powerup but not stay lit. Fn+Fwhatever would also flicker the backlight, and she could see screen contents with a flashlight so there was definitely something there. She didn't call me for what was obviously a hardware issue, so imagine her chagrin when she arrived home and, after inspecting the machine for a whole 14 seconds, I pulled the offending sticker off and the screen sprang to life."

Does the M1330 have some sort of sensor peg that may be bad?

4. "Great news!
So i opened up the screen display and noticed the connector from the screen to the laptop was hanging half way from the socket. So I simply plugged it in properly and the screen works!

Thanks alot Dell Repair services...."

I have no idea why you replaced the motherboard, but it is clear that you need a new backlight (CCFL I believe). You likely have two; one on the bottom, and one on the top.

I have replaced the lcd with the entire housing, with a brand-new one, meaning new CCFL's came with the new screen. The back-light is not dead, it's just on the lowest brightness level.

I highly doubt a brand-new screen with new back-lights would be on stuck on the lowest level brightness just like the original screen. So I don't think it is anything with the LCD and its back-light. the issue is somewhere else.

1. I replaced the lcd with its entire housing, meaning new ccfls with it.

2. On external video is nice and bright.

3. there is no outside sensor like you are speaking of on the thinkpad, but either way if it was a sensor issue, then the screen back-lights would be either off or on. The back-light on this machine is on just on the lowest setting, in bios and desktop.

4. I've check this multiple times that I have teared it down to it's pieces.

But theres nothing else left to replace..

I'd say the switch doesn't exist as well but maybe it does?

As for other testing or cross testing I have an m1330 but broken keyboard, broken motherboard (boot no video) and I believe a dead LCD. I mean, I'd help but all I basically have is the case lol.

I had a feeling you did, but it just seems like you have already replaced everything!

In researching your issue online most people say either replace the inverter or backlight (which you have already done)

I did find this read; is the GPU an Nvidia model?
(second post down)

There is always plan B if it does have an Nvidia GPU; complain like mad to tech support that Apple extended their warranty on the Nvidia issue, and that it is a very well known issue.

There's no one to complain to. When you got your mobo was there any 2nd gem mobos for sale? Sometimes lime with the dv9000 there's a refresh of the original board with a more... Stable let's say chip.
