I'm also wondering : Should I wait for the 2011 socket or not? I'm only playing medieval 2: total war for the moment and the gameplay is acceptable (even with the C2D)

Edit : I hate Microsoft. Almost every year a new windows version. So I refuse to buy Windows 7... ( I admit I'm also a PS3 fanboy...)
Hey man, sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking you for using Vista. That was my own bias towards vista coming out. Microsoft can be a pisser, I just bought a netbook and had to pay $50 just to go for win 7 starter to home If you are only playing medieval 2 than you really dont have to do anything, a core2duo and a gtx 580 a just fine. That single 800W psu will be fine. 3 year old and its still good just means it was a wise purchase when you bought it, which maybe window 7 wouldn't be lol. Where's Windows 8 at, haha

Some PSUs don't handle extremely small loads like that very well. Although, it also could have been just a natural death of the X1950.

Either way, yeah: now that I know that this PSU's +12V has a capacity of 744W, I think it should be enough if you added a 2nd GTX 580. However, I would refrain from overclocking them.

I Think it would by very stupid to add another card which such a creepy CPU and memory... wednesday the GTX arrived but I only had 1gb of ram. i went to the local computer shop and that ret*ard asked 200$ for a 4GB 1333mhz kingston kit... i said : that' s expensive... He did some research and said : I can't go any lower than 170$... It's CL7 high quality RAM. I thought : do I look like I'm stupid? go rip off somebody else.

So i bought 2 sticks of 2GB 1333Mhz kingston valueram... At home I plugged in the RAM and my 580gtx, I boot vista => BSOD : I Thought : damn I'm ripped of, the GTX is faulty... I raise the memory voltage to 1,58V and reboot : everything fine... I Start medieval 2 ... The game crashes, refreshes, and so one... Now i thought : OMG my 580gtx is faulty...

I decided to lower the FSB:RAM ratio to 1,60 (1066mhz) and everything is working smoothly... Worthless memory... But still better than paying 115€ for a 4GB "high quality" CL7 kit with heatspreader...

What voltage is that memory rated for? It should say right on the stickers or on the package. 1.58V sounds extremely low to me for a Core2 system, especially since it's "valueram".

it's 1.50v. Normal voltage for DDR3 ram I assume? The sticker only says KVR1333D3N9/2G or something like that.

Oh crap, I forgot that you have a DDR3 system. That's my fault.

So nevermind. hehe I'm sorry.

So my only reply should have been this: Actually, I think it would have been better to buy a good CL8 kit with nice heatspreaders.

Indeed. Now i'm just running at 1066mhz and I bought a 1333mhz kit... Cheap buy equals bad buy imo... luckily my GTX 580 is not faulty... That was my first concern... I hate those BSOD's. Stupid windows. I never saw a BSOD on linux
