Question about i7 1366 upgrade

Thread Starter
I built my rig in early feb. and ended up buying an i7 950 with an ASUS 1366 sabertooth x58 and triple channel memory. The deal I got was really good so I jumped on it because I upgraded from a Q6600. Well right now I am reading that the 1155 boards with i5-2500k perform better than the i7-950 and 1366 board. At the moment I have my i7-950 clocked at 4.2ghz and it runs really stable with good temps. My question is, if I were to buy a 1155 board with i5-2500k would I see that much of a difference? I only use my PC to game and I have my board coupled with a GTX 580. I also heard that 1155 boards only allow SLI to run at 8x/8x and the 1366 boards allow SLI to run at 16x/16x. I plan to get another GTX 580 as well so I'm guessing it would be beneficial to use the 1366 board? So should I buy a 1155 board if I already have a 1366 board with an i7-950?

If you have a 1366 setup there is no reason to move to 1155 possibly even 2011. Especially if youre gaming and have a 4.2 clock.

Do you think my setup could last well into 2012 and possibly 2013-2014?

you will not see any "big" changes. keep the 1366.

Wait for some variant of Ivy Bridge or even until Haswell.

You OC'd your CPU to 4.2Ghz that should be good enough and that won't ever bottleneck your 580 or even with SLI. Just stick to what you have right now and wait for newer procs to come out. save some cash now then spend it once later with latest and greatest hardwares.
