If they can't fix it cheaply, I wouldn't worry about it too much. In some programs you can map the coordinates of where your camera has issues with the sensor, and it can mask that area with blending.
Even I find my self getting too caught up in the perfection of my gear, when in actuality the problem will not affect my workflow. Later I look back and often find these things were not a huge issues, and the workaround is not very difficult.
If you want to explore it further, get a camera air blower, use the mirror lockup function, and blow some air to try to get any particles off the sensor. If that doesn't fix it, it is likely another issue, but like I said, it might not affect your workflow that much.
