Look at these Crucial C300 benchmarks by lsdmeasap: http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-St...AID/td-p/18454

For single drives: Basically, the Marvell controller is better at sequential speeds (think one big movie file). However, the Intel controller is better at 4K sized files (think a bunch of small files used by operating systems). Personally I rather have better 4K performance than sequential performance on a SSD with an OS.

If you ever go RAID0 with SSD's, the Intel controller blows the Marvell controller away. Marvell 6.0 Gb/s controller cannot compete with Intel 3.0 Gb/s controller.

Just outta curiosity, why go RAID when you have TRIM?

And yeah 2C, my score has been 7.9 ever since I changed it to AHCI, lol.

I know that it's been 7.9 ever since you changed it over to AHCI, but is it still 7.9 now that you're using the SATA II ports?

Oh sorry. Yes it was 7.9 then as well. I'm back to the Marvell for now, though. Should I look into purchasing a PCIe SATA controller?

I was just looking at something.

What about perhaps getting a RAID controller and putting them into RAID 0? Would TRIM still work? What are the advantages and disadvantages of that?

My understanding is that you lose TRIM with RAID, not so sure about GC.

You lose TRIM when you go RAID. No company have released a method to pass TRIM through to a RAID array yet.

People who RAID SSD's have to rely on its firmware/controller to perform garbage collection (GC) to clean up any deleted files. Some controllers perform a better job at GC than others, although TRIM is still better since it prevents the problem before it happens.

C300's GC runs when your computer is idle. If you leave your computer on with nothing running, GC should operate. The manufacturer says to log off your computer account for GC to make sure it activates.

How would logging off activate GC? Isn't the reason for logging off to just make the system a little more secure when you're away?
