No wonder. He probably wants that card because it has an awesome cooler on it.

If a GTX 465 has 10 memory chips on its PCB, then 2 of those chips are not in use because no GTX 465 BIOS is programmed to use them.

The Golden Edition Twin Frozr II GTX 465 has 10 memory chips and a GF100-A3-275 chip on the board, and so that's why it unlocks. It goes from having 1024MB to 1280. That's because every single GTX 470 BIOS is programmed to use all 10 chips.

Why dont sell them as 470's in the first place? If the reason is that they are not stable as 470's, it does not makes sense to try to unlock them because they almost certain will fail after a while?

The more i compare the three things, the left of the card and the picture with all 10 chips installed, with the right of the card i see what you mean. It doesnt have 10 chips, and the seller was lying. Shux im going to have to cancel the package mid transit, do they even do that?
There are no pictures in your thread here that show a GTX 465 with all 10 memory chips on it. Although, that pic from Newegg is crappy.

Because they were intended to be 470s, but they did not meet the high standards to be sold as 470s. So then they get binned as 465s.

That's why SmokinWaffle's card was not stable. Although, he could have made it stable by increasing the voltage (which is what I had to do).

I understand but If you (in that case) try to unlock them you're a complete donk because it is almost certain your card will die after a while.

Tell us who it is so we can avoid trading with him if this is all true. I know UPS can cancel shipments mid-transit, but I don't think usps can.
