2500K voltage aid and questions

Thread Starter
Hello again there!

So I've become a happy owner of a completely legendary cpu in my opinion. A 2500K, so I started clocking it and everything is just like a dream, one I don't want to wake up from. So after getting the cpu up to just under 5Ghz, then I was happy.

But now as I start playing certain games. Like Minecraft, wich clocks my cpu all the way to the top. Then I get a message from Asus AI Suite that core voltage is 1.52V or something quite similliar. Is this "deadly" for my cpu? I tried reading myself up on the offset values, but it appears that I'm just as stupid as my cat, only capable of eating and sleeping. I also tried setting a specific voltage, in this case 1.48 and reducing the clock to a more matchable one. But then the cpu just rages on and runs at the full speed all the time. I haven't found any way to make it clock down on idle and clock up with a specific voltage.

Im running a 2500K as said on a Asus P8Z68-V Pro board with 4GB Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz RAM with the timings 9-9-9-24 and a Command Rate of 1T.
This is running together in a Corsair 700D, powered by a Corsair HX850 PSU and cooled by a Noctua NH-D14. There is also 1 or 2 HD5870s inside there, alternating because something within those cards doesn't like me.

The temperatures I get while playing Dragon Age 2 on mostly everything max exept AA and MSAA (correct me if I'm wrong on those) are about a max 65C.

So if anyone could help a beginner overclocker to get a stable and healthy clock for my CPU then that person(s) would be my hero.

Also if there is anything else that you might want to know about then it's only a matter of asking and I'll put it up. Also to mention my computer turns on at about 16.00 and shuts down about 24.00, exept in holidays, LAN and in weekends where its on from aprox 11.00 to 03.00, or whole night on LAN.

(Sorry for the long post with bad grammar and punctation)

Post your BIOS settings here so that we can have a look, also go here and fill in your system spec: http://www.overclock.net/specs.php

Well lets see, my Vcore is set to auto now, as when I tried having a specific I just got stuck with having that high clock on idle also.

My Bus Freq is 103.0, my multiplier goes up to 48 during load. Voltage on the core is as said auto with offsett on +. DRAM voltage is 1.65V wich is the correct according to my RAM. My BIOS version is 0501. The rest of the settings I havent fickled with that much, and are all on default. Exept disabling the SATA3 chip.

If there is anything else just ask, and just so you know I wanted to throw in a screenshot of the BIOS but it wouldn't find my usb stick.

Do not use Auto voltage when you are OC.
Use manual or off-set.
Also put back the bclk to 100.
Have you read any of the SB OC guide?
Do you have idea which voltage controls what?
Have you made anything lower clock (like 4.6) stable?
Were your power saving options and speed steps ON when you put the manual voltage?

Unless you know what exactly you are doing, start the OC from 5.0 is NOT recommended.
Since you don't know how your chip performs.
Also not knowing what each voltages do won't get you to 5.0.
It actually could damage your system.

I forgot to put on the power saving options. So I put my core voltage on 1,38 with a BCLK on 100 and multiplier on 46. Ran Prime95 for about 40 minutes, when I checked back I got a message that said that my motherboard temperature was -60C wich completely confused me.

And yes I've read some of the guides, but not all the parts of it did I understand.

Starting at 4.6 should be fine for most of SB.
Then you'll know how much temp you'll be getting with certain voltages.
It's good that you'll have some idea what certain voltages do to the stability before you going to try 5.0.
Also check out the Sandy Stable Club (click the link on my sig) so you can compare your set up/temp/clock with others.
Good luck tweakin'!

But, what does the program mean when it alerts me of -60C? That part is still confusing for me and I couldn't find anything about it on google.

Thanks for the help also

It's most likely a buggy sensor.
Mine does that sometimes.
