The worst set of Ram I've ever used

Aside from the mediocre timings, this RAM should be pretty nice, I bought it hoping to run it at 1600 and 8-8-8-24, and it cant even get close to that

Currently I have it running at 1333 and 9-9-9-24-1T
I find that if I don't set everything except the voltage to auto, it will make applications crash as if I had an unstable overclock, yet it will pass prime95 or IBT or LinX

What is wrong with this ram exactly? I don't quite understand whats happening

Ok this happened to me. So I don't necessarily think it is the ram. First off, write down your current bios CPU settings. Don't just save them to a file. Reset you bios defaults and then do failsafe defaults. I can't remember which it is but it is one so do both. You need to do this on the ram timings page. Then redo your overclock if it wiped that. Afterwards you should up you voltage to 1.65 like it is recommended. Then start doing the timings. When you take it off auto put things the way they need to be around in the casl tras ect. Everything else you need to leave auto if it gives you the option or change it to what the auto value would be. Start with some loose timings that you know will work then move it back down towards 8cl you may be able to get it down to 7 if you are at 1333 because you have to be.

Also when you do timings. You have to be 110% certain your OC is stable. Otherwise your ram may make errors appear in prime/linx. So if it isn't stable messing with timings won't fix errors when stress testing, and it will be impossible to tell if you can get them right.

Edit: I had some ocz and it wasn't until I had my gskill in the mail that I realized I fixed it with resetting some stuff to defaults. But I went from 4-8 so I don't care that much.

You can't really say it's a "bad set of RAM" because it doesn't overclock. It's only advertised to do one thing, and if it does that job, than it's good RAM.

Your IMC is only rated for 1333. Anything higher than that is an overclock. So you're not even guaranteed to hit 1600.

It's probably your CPU that's holding the RAM back from getting to its advertised speeds.

I didn't even realize this guy was going for a OC. I thought he had 1600mhz ram. Whoops. I was trying to get things running stock before an OC or tightening timings. :/

try to put ram to 1600mhz, voltage to dram to 1.65 and leave everything else at auto. don't overclock your NB or cpu until you get a stable system with 1600 8-8-8-24@1.65v.

my old ocz black edition ram default runs at 1600 8-8-8-24 1.5v on this board fine and i currently now using corsair dominator GT 2133mhz, but i can only run these at 1866mhz max on this cpu (955) i have set these to 1600mhz and running 7-7-7-18 @ 1.6v and 2600mhz on NB at 1.35v. Tho when bulldozer is out nativly should be able to run ram at 1866mhz. From what ive read the last month when i got my gt ram is that all ddr3 is 1066mhz or 1333mhz ram even tho you for 2000mhz ram, it just overclocks it to that speed. So even tho its rated upto 2000mhz it might not run 2000mhz at the surgested voltage etc.

Correct.
Things are only known as "good for overclocking" if they have a reputation of running well when over spec. I have heard nothing about that ram being anything but in existence and blue. That doesnt mean that I am the definitive authority, just using myself and how I keep my ear to the ground for products like that as an example.

I would think its not the RAM either, it looks like it should OC well.
Set your voltage at 1.65 and try. If that doesnt work, wipe the BIOS back to factory, and go from there. Sounds less like a hardware issue and more like an OC with some instability or a conflict somewhere in the BIOS.

A C3 revision 965 won't hit 2000Mhz, but really shouldn't hold back from running above 1600Mhz.... according to some official AMD documents, AMD requires the NB speed to be 3x the (before DDR) memory speed to be capable of running the memory without bottleneck, so you need a 2400Mhz NB to run 1600Mhz RM without much bottleneck. Unfortunately, this is above spec (you can safely run 2400Mhz even with small voltage increase, but I think they kept it to 2000Mhz due to 1. prebuilts never really use above 1333Mhz anyway, and 2. power consumption).
