What should I do with this gtx 470

So I recently was in the market for a graphics card to put in my new build. I liked the suggestion I got on this forum for a gtx 470. Found two refurb ones from newegg. One EVGA and one PNY. Chose to go with the PNY due to the refund policy. Wanted the EVGA because most people tend to go for the EVGA cards when it comes to NVidia. They also just appeal more to me than PNY but there was only an exchange policy. So today my card came in the mail and as soon as I opened it for inspection, the back of the pcb has some sticky areas. I'm guessing this is flux since some of the points have obviously been resoldered. I'm not too sure but the points seem to be for vrm chips and for the dvi connectors. I will post some pictures later. I was under the impression that companies wouldn't go through the hassle of resoldering components on the card and was hoping to get one that was returned from someone upgrading or finding the 470 ran too hot.

So anyone else with experience please answer me this.
1. Do the resoldered points indicate something blew up or is this just part of the testing process. How likely will this affect the quality?
2. What are my options? Will I be able to rma it? What can I say for reason.

I will be waiting out the card to see how it runs. Will try to oc it and see where I can take it. Obviously I will wait out the month I have from newegg to return/exchange before putting it under water. I haven't taken off the stock cooler so I can't tell you how it looks under there. Should I? Both dvi ports are working fine, have not tested mini hdmi as I don't have an adapter.

Also I'm having 'issues' getting a custom fan profile working. Yes this is my first proper discrete gpu so I'm new to all this software. If anyone could give me some settings for fan profile and maybe how to get the setting to work, I'd appreciate it.

You could return it to newegg, in fact that is what you should do before the 30 days are up.

However before you do pop it in, and oc the hell out of it.

If you can do 850 or higher on air, keep it. You have 90 days typically for the warranty (not sure if PNY does it differently on refurbs), so if it clocks well keep it - if it is going to die in normal operation it will before the 90 days are up most of the time.

Ok so I've got some pics to share. It's not the vrms but the pci-e power connectors that are resoldered. Also not the dvi connectors themselves but some points around that area. These are the most visible. Then again, they look resoldered to me..

My overclocking results aren't so good either. Got up to about 730-740 core. More and atitool starts to show artifacts.. Are artifacts going to show no matter what the cooling is? I get up to about 90C on gpu with fan in the 90% range. Did not have it running prolonged at that temp.

sorry about the bad quality of the pics. didn't wanna break out the dig cam

Here is the beast

What voltage are you giving the card at those clocks?

Er.. That's why I don't usually buy Refurbished GPU's. Although, Buying a Refurbished CPU Is no big deal, and it saves you money

But, If I have to buy a Refurbished GPU, I will.

Does changing the TIM of this card void the warrenty? If not, you should change the thermal paste and get the dust out of the cooler.
