What should I do with this gtx 470 - Page 3

Slightly less voltage or higher clock gave me a yellow dot or 2 in the first few mins but would stay clean up to 5 mins (didn't run longer). After about 8 mins temps hit 90C, maxed out at 91C with fan at 100%. Afterburner wont let me set vid higher than 1.087V. Is it worth flashing to custom bios and do I have to use one made for pny cards? Oh and occt was a bust. Didn't see any errors but I could not run it very long(max 2 mins) as temps sky rocketed into the 90s and kept climbing. Maybe I can go higher if I can get temps under control. Does the card seem decent? decent enough to put under water and see if I can get it higher?

edit..cant rep mods? +1 pioneerisloud

800 core with only 1.075v, yeah its a keeper. You DEFINITELY need to get those temps under control somehow though. Definitely far too hot. Mine loaded at 88*C with 1.125v, 100% fan. And mine wouldn't hit 800 core no matter WHAT I did to it, and I loved that card dearly too, even at a "wimpy" 775 core.

Get those temps lower, and you'll be looking at probably 900 core, with reasonable volts (under 1.15v air / 1.20v water, with under 90*C load temps).

Odd that it is hitting 90C at stock with a minor oc and then again with a lot of voltage at a much greater OC.

You should run Heaven/Vantage/Mark11 see what the temps get to and if it is stable through them.

Probably don't have a very good application of TIM would be my guess. Not to mention the 470's run really hot with the reference cooler anyway. A good aftermarket cooler or water will fix his card up VERY nicely though, and probably 900 core or better. smile.gif

I only had my 470s on air for a short period before going water, and it was either fall or winter out when they were on air. So I really don't know how hot they'd run in the middle of summer frown.gif

Neither went over 60C for me, I'd redo the tim quick to see if your thermals improve. Otherwise my guess would be a high leakage gpu??

Those scores look about right to me, for a single 470 and a stock i5 (assuming stock here since that's what its showing in those results, plus the stock cooler).
