Also, if you're willing to go that high, I think you should check out the Audio Technica AD900's, which are around $200.
^^ too many options!! I do like Sennheiser though.. those HD600's are mighty purdy

No, they aren't. The drivers have been rotated by 90 degrees.

If I could get a pair of HD650's for ~$300, would you say to jump on it?

You're still gonna need an amp son! But I would say my Senns get the most use simply because of their comfort and laid back, airy, detailed sound. I love these things. (580's)

Start with a cheap cmoy amp for $40 on head-fi if you want. Then get yourself a nice Mark III little dot tube amp for $250 later on!

I would def recommend the upper ohm beyers, you can always skate by with average sound til you get an amp. 880's, ad900's, or yeah, those 650's would be NICE.

A CMOY won't cut it for the HD600/650. You definitely will be better off with a tube amp.

I'm curious where you got this from. From this thread:
http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/...mparison-shots
It suggests the internals are completely identical, save for the piece of foam. I think it's already been established that they share the same drivers.

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention that little tidbit...The Sennheiser HD600 and HD650 both have 300 ohms of impedance. You WILL NEED an amp.

I will say that if you feel that all this is starting to get a little too pricey and you just want a nice set of headphones that can be driven by anything, you can start looking at the Sennheiser HD598 and the Audio Technica AD900's that I mentioned before. The HD598's have 50 ohms of impedance and the AD900's have 35 ohms of impedance. They're about the same price near the $200 mark.

Sure it will. It wont allow them to shine to their fullest potential but it will still put a stupid smile on the ops face. I plugged my 580s into a pos generic alarm clock when I first had it. Sure it had a bit of hiss, but it blew the doors off whatever junk I had before! Point is, it'll get him by just like my cmoy got me by til I could afford something better.

Op : I have only heard the little dot 3, but that 2 looks a nice price provided its real and functional!!

Edit: If you listen to classical at all, the 650s would be like ice cream! Or just order a bunch on a CC and return what u don't like. :/
