I was using the GPU3 client and I noticed i never seemed to be able to fully shut it off. If I paused it then it would be fine, but if I exited it or killed the f@h process my GPU usage would jump from 0-5% and I would always have 30MB of VRAM being used. If I started a game it would be really choppy and low on the FPS. Only way to clear it out was to restart...which I didn't deem that big of an issue. The GPU3 client is not guaranteed to work flawlessly or anything. I think the "high performance" clients are technically beta yet, but I am not folding expert of course.

Infact, It was better for me to game with it running than to shut it off and not restart. Even though whatever was going was using so little of the cards resources it was enough to screw up its gaming performance.

I think there may a bit of misattribution going on here. What I mean by this is that the folding client using extra cycles will not impact your game nearly as much as buggy code (the usage you see on your GPU after exit). I would take a gander that if you left your client running at 100%, you would not have noticed AS MUCH of a difference as if you had quit the program.

Again, with a glitch with the program quitting is going to affect your GPU differently than having that actual usage be there.

My 2600k can fold and play games.

While simultaneously reading a magazine and juggling chainsaws.

But seriously - I think that if your processor is becoming seriously overworked, Folding takes a backseat for awhile... or maybe I just have my F@H set up in "safe mode" or something, I don't know.

It's actually a good way to properly stress test your rig.

It keeps the CPU at 100%, but also pushes a great deal of info through the NB, pushes the RAM a bit harder, and generally warms up the whole rig. If it can survive a bit of Crysis while folding, it'll still be here long after we're all gone, and the robots have taken over
