Battlefield: Bad connection 2

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
I bought this game today, and ive been playing today. Its happened about 7 or 8 times today, I just get disconnected halfway through a game. Its making me rage so bad, ive googled it and all I could find was these problems either on the beta for bad company 2 or the console version. This is pissing me off SO bad.

Also, it will randomly shut down too the desktop as if I pressed exit game. This has happened 2 or 3 times.

Not happy, does anyone know how too fix this? I would like too get the connection issue sorted so I dont randomly get disconnected. Please let me know if theres any more information you need if you are able too help me.

EDIT: This does NOT happen in other games.

Is it a punkbuster error? If so downloaded the latest punkbunker and install the updates.

How do I tell if its a punkbuster error?

It simply disconnects me from the match and says please reconnect or something along those lines. It doesnt say anything about punkbuster, or being kicked etc.

EDIT: I will try updating punkbuster now and see if it makes a difference.

Its a wired connection.

Wow, I just attempted to join three games. And every single one, after clicking join, BC2 just closed down and I was back on my desktop. Three times in a row.

A Couple of things to try -

First is as already mentioned PunkBuster. They have just started updating all the servers and clients with PunkBuster v2.277. The ingame auto update doesn't always work. To manually update PB goto http://www.evenbalance.com/ and click the BC2 link to download pbsetup.exe. Unzip it and run it. Choose to add game in the window that pops up and tell it where your BC2.exe is by using the browse option.

Next step is goto Libraries/Documents ( Win7/Vista ) or My Documents ( WinXP ) and you will see a folder called BFBC2. Go intol that and open the file called settings.ini in notepad.

Make it so it looks like mine and then close and save the file. Next try running the game again.

[WindowSettings]
Width=1920
Height=1080
Fullscreen=true
RefreshRate=60
VSync=false
[Sound]
Quality=high
VoipEnable=false
SpeakerCount=2
[Graphics]
Effects=low
Soldiers=medium
Vehicles=medium
Overgrowth=low
Undergrowth=low
StaticObjects=low
Terrain=low
Shadows=medium
Bloom=false
HSAO=false
MSAA=1
Water=low
MainQuality=custom
Texture=high
DxVersion=10
Aniso=3
Detail=high
RenderAheadLimit=1
Fov=59.000004

You could leave your Width / Height as your orig which i imagine would be 1680 x 1050 on your 22" ?

FoV is personnal choice.
The main thing is HSAO and Bloom to be false.

If none of this works then i dunno

Well you could try your orig settings 1st and if that don't work then just make a clone of my settings.

I have my quality settings on mostly low as i prefer lots of fps for smoothness rather than good looking gfx.
