Getting above 4GHz on i7 920 C0 Bloodrage GTi

Hello all

My chip seems to be decent. I can hit 4 fully stable on 1.28v in cpuz or 1.33v in bios. Im looking at clocking it to around 4.1-4.2 however I am finding it difficult because from my settings now if i change anything i will instantly bsod. To hit 4ghz settings are...

210 BLCK
CPU Multi 19X
QPI Multi 18x
Uncore 16x
Mem bus 8x

1.33v for cpu
1.64v for ram

some other tweaks are there but these are the main ones.
ALSO... when i enable turbo i bsod instantly, i dont really understand why, i have heard that 920's can have a 21x multi but i cant seem to enable it.
And for the bloodrage people I have a very strange problem where my computer fails to boot on stock bios but will do so on my saved settings above. The screen just goes blank and nothing happens??
Much help would be appreciated! Cheers

Some of your issues seem weird but maybe some can be a ram/memory issue. I have some Gskill ram and for some odd reason it hates 4 ghz at 191x200 and wont boot at all but 211x19 it boots fine. Also for a C0 chip you have way lower voltage than me and my C0 does 4 ghz with 1.46v and it can't get past that no matter what I do.

Try 200x21 which is 4.2 ghz with 1.35v and try turning off speedstep, CPU Spread Spectrum, PCIE Spread Spectrum, C1E Support, Intel(r) Virtualization Tech and CPU TM Function then see what you get.

When I 1st started doing my overclocking I got my settings from here and learned what my hardware would run good on. Look at the 2nd post which has the settings you might want to try.

Is HT disabled? My 920 d0 clocks over 4.0 better with it and turbo off.

Edit: and about 1.4v of vcore.

in your bios, the speed step is called EIST i believe. so basically, go into cpu features, and disable PPM, EIST, CxE, Virtualization and HT.

as regard to cpu ratio, what's the max you can see? 19 or 20? you might have to turn on the cpu turbo option in the quantum bios section, maybe that will unlock the x21 ratio?

EDIT: @ xiaojiemkk: W.T.F.
Thnx mate will give that a try tmoro. I have tried turning turbo on with both enable and always on function. 20x is the max i can do for some reason. The bios tells me to input value betwee 1 and 20 for cpu multi. No mention of 21x :L Also my bios version is the G40 beta. Do you thnk i might have to update?

hmm, maybe it's just a C0 limitation? i know the D0s definitely have the x21 multi readily available, not so sure about the C0 versions though...might have to do some digging on that...

as to bios, i always prefer latest stable version, i'd recommend you get it if there is one available...

EDIT: so 210x20 will result in a bsod? can you give us the bsod code? will be easier to understand what the problem might be.

yes always bsod. I seem to have turbo enabled but i have to have ppm enabled to do so. I can now boot into bios with turbo on however i get the 101 bsod. :L
Ill test it with other settings now

Disable turbo boost, update to current bios for your mobo, use 21X multiplier, drop ram speeds to make sure it is not unstable memory, more voltage to chipset maybe.
