iPhone 3Gs won't charge/turn on/go into DFU or recovery modes

So, here's the deal. Last night, my phone died in my pocket. I noticed it was dead, threw it on the charger at work. Let it sit about 10-15 minutes so it would turn back on and I could call the wifey back home before she put the kids to bed. After about 15 minutes, I hit the home button to see what the battery level was before I turned it on. The screen didn't respond to my pressing the home button... so I tried holding down the power button, it didn't respond to that either.

Ok, no big deal. I unplug the phone from the charger and it brings up the battery with the red bar all the way gone flashing 3 times with the logo telling me to put it on a charger source. I figured maybe I didn't have it seated all the way like an idiot. I plug it back on the charger, screen changes showing that it is charging (battery with the lightning bolt below it). I leave it for 15 minutes again, press the home button, same result. So, I hard reset the phone, thinking maybe something is stuck or whatever, I also pull the NES trick of blowing into the spot where the charger cord goes to make sure there's no debris blocking the phone from making contact. Plug it into the charger, and as soon as the screen dims out showing the charger icon, it won't respond to the home button again.

Try hard resetting again... this time, it doesn't even respond to going on the charger at all. No indication on the screen, nothing. Doesn't even give me the "dead battery, give me juice" screen. I've tried everything that good ol' Google can recommend... I've tried wall chargers, iHome radio dock, plugging it to the work computer, rebooting the computer with it hooked up to get it to initialize once the USB kicks off and on a few times during start up procedures, recovery mode, and DFU mode... nothing makes this thing kick on or communicate what so ever.

So I guess my question is... anyone ever had this happen before? Or any Apple techs familiar with this sort of issue and have any insight on what I can do? My phone is eligible for an upgrade through AT&T, but I want that to be a last resort.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible seeing as I won't be awake for the next 8 hours or so... wanted it so any information you could possibly need would be here while I'm unable to respond.

Thanks in advance!

I had the same issue with my old 3GS back when I had AT&T and I tried everything, but eventually ended up having to call Apple and they sent me a new one.

I know it's not much to go off of, but figured I'd let you know how my experience went with it, plus they shipped it overnight so I wasn't without a phone for a long period of time.

That is where I kinda think this is heading (well, the no longer working needs to be replaced route) but was hoping to find a way to salvage it. Hoping there's some obscure fix for this that doesn't require me to go in and fix it manually with soldering as a few of the google fixes I found suggested.

Thank you though for the feedback!

Usually if you can't throw it in DFU mode and restore it, it's pretty much a paperweight or you need a new battery.. But considering you tried all that and it didn't work, I'd just send it off and tell them you want an iPhone 4 or something! Anyway you go, best of luck to you my friend!

Sorry I couldn't help ya out more!
