I have thirty plus games on my Steam list, and I wouldn't mind selling twenty of them that I don't play anymore, but I can't, without having to sell my entire Steam account
I get what you're saying and agree that it "sucks" but in all honesty, it "sucks" for the developer trying to earn an honest buck when a used game sale earns them nothing. Having such a system forces everyone to buy the game new, for which the revenue goes to the developer.

Most probably will. That isn't the problem.

I think most are just more upset that they are losing options. Games are coming with too many conditions now. Where I used to use just play wherever and whenever, now I have to install Steam, Punkbuster, pay a monthly fee, and keep a constant internet connection. It's more like I'm renting the game then buying it. Maybe some people want to play on vacation, or maybe they play with family when they visit their grandparents who still have dial up. I'm not judging when people want to play, I just think it sucks that they can't play when they want to whether I think its stupid or not.

My old apartment used to only have one ISP. It was terrible. I didn't have free time 24/7 to play video games, so if I came home a few times a week expecting to play diablo and my internet was out, I would be pretty pissed off. Now if everybody starts requiring a connection, I won't have access to any of my games.

You are right, a majority of people will have FEW or NO issues at all with this. It just seems like a huge cop out to throw internet access on everything instead of letting single player be single play and dealing with online appropriately. They are really alienating the minority to remove hackers from BNET, which is a worthy cause, but I'm really questioning their methods.

As much as it sucks, I agree then. Maybe i'm just a jaded old vet who remembers games before they tagged on numbers behind their names. I'm always looking to buy small time developer games to try and keep EA/Bliz/Act out of my pocketbook. But with every dollar I hold, four more dollars from the "Tunchi"s of the world re-enforce their negative behavior.

It's not about the game anymore, it's about haveing the lastest and "greatest."

Fixed. If one can effectively organize a boycott with all of those that oppose the concept, changes will come. The problem is nowadays the internet is filled with little trolls that swear they'll boycott a game, then turn around and buy it on release day. L4D2 anyone?

You could call this a Steam rant....

Why is it that I have to purchase certain games from Steam? TF2, I'm fine with because that was Valve's thing and they are free to distribute it how they see fit. But seriously? Some other things like Dawn of War II and Chaos Rising? It's absurd that I have to connect and verify my CD key through steam.

I miss the days when you could buy Rollercoaster Tycoon or comparable game, install it, and get right into it! And if there was a CD key, you just punched it in and off you went.

Now with Steam, I wanted to play Civilization III while on vacation. So the place we stayed at had no internet. No problem! I bought Civ III months ago and have already verified it! And do you know what came up when I started Steam to play it?

"Steam has lost internet connection. Try again or Start in offline mode?"

So i click Offline Mode....

"Unable to perform this operation. You must be connected to the internet to start in offline mode."

Steam is a stupid system, and requiring an internet connection to play a game is archaic and foolish considering that many people are now going to laptops. By their very nature, a laptop is more portable than a desktop and can be taken more places. With this, no DiabloIII on the 5 hour plane flight anymore!

/rant

Except that the portion of people interested in Diablo 3 that would want to boycott the game over this always online thing is easily less than 5%. Blizzard wouldn't even notice.

Don't forget it's larger than just the online thing (no mods, RMAH) but sadly it would still be arround 5%
