XSPC Rasa RX240 fan options...

Thread Starter
Hi guys, im just considering a few options concerning fans for the rad. The options are as follows:

-2 stock fans
-2 ap-15 fans
-2 stock fans with 2 ap-15 fans in push/pull
-4 ap-15 fans in push/pull

Im not sure if any of them will be MUCH better in performance and therefore should just save my money. Also, im mounting the rad on top of the haf 932 replacing the 230mm fan....would you guys suggest having the fans intake or exhuast? I know intake would probably produce better temps but i would have to change all the other fans in the case to the other direction to keep good airflow...would it be worth it you reckon?

Cheers

If you can fit 4 AP-15s then thats the way to go, but you don't need 4 imo. Two AP-15s would do nicely by themselves.

Mount the fans as push on your rad in an exhuast orientation.

I have 1000rpm fans in push/pull as these rads do wonders with low rpm fans, nice and quiet too.

if you can afford 4 + a controller that'd be optimal... give you nice quiet use when your comp is running quiet... and BAM when you benchmarking or gaming.

Depending the the GPU. My GPU outputs all the hot air in the case so i have the rad intake air from the top. If the GPU outputs all teh air out then you can have the fans push air up the RAD out the top. As for rans 4 AP-15 would be nice and you can have then fan controlled to lower speed but if you plan to running them MAX then just get 2 and you will be fine.

Thanks guys. Im going to be getting the MSI 3gb gtx 580 Lightning Xtreme GPU and that exhausts heat into the case so you reckon i should do push/pull intake from the top? My only concern with this is that there will be hot air dumped into the case from both the GPU and rad then?

The fan controller is a good idea however i havent looked into that yet as i dont think i would be able to fit that with the res/pump and optical drive in the 5.25" bays.

then try something like this. I'd do exhaust out of the top just because hot air rises and so just continue to push it out of the top.

I know people usually recommend getting the ambient air through the radiator, but this is one of the few situations when it is less than logical, but if you must intake a rad doesn't heat up the air that much. That is why you push so much air through it.

Ok im looking at fan controllers now . I havent decided as whether to intake or exhaust from the top yet. I may have to experiment a little. It would be more convienient to exhaust due to all the fans already having been configured that way and theAlexandria makes a good point about heat rising.

Two AP-15's would be fine. Why don't you think you can fit a fan controller into the bays?

You have 6 5.25" bays...

Look at Lamptron fan controllers. They are great. I just got my FC8 in and I love it so far.

I was confused at the time lol .

I wasn to have the ap-15s pulling air from the top (exhaust) but i want some uv 120mm fans to push air into the rad. Any suggestions on some uv fans that would work well with this rad?
