new RAM for rig; question

Thread Starter
OK so i want to be able to run high setting graphics for gaming. First time building a computer myself and have questions about something that is prolly an easy fix. I was surfin around for some memory online and find ones i like from normal RAM companies... Corsair, kingston, etc. But i see alot that are almost like spec'd for the intel i series. (i3, i5, i7), now am i just being dumb and thinking that the RAM isnt set up for AMD or does it really matter...

also the second part of my question is how important is the difference going to be from a 1600MHz to a 1866MHz process with my build? Can i still get great performance from the 1600 without having to overclock alot?

Setup:
AMD PHENOM II X6 1100T 3.3GHZ
ASUS M4A87TD EVO 870 CROSSFIRE DDR3 AM3 USB 3.0 SATA 3 AMD 1
H687QNT1G2M RADEON HD 6870 ICEQ X TURBO 1GB 920 MHZ

If i you are getting 1600 ram, then it won't matter. I would change out the PSU on your build if you haven't already purchased it. Go with a Supply from seasonic, corsair, antec.
Ram is ram, the only think special about ram for the intel side, is the new CPUs need ram that is only 1.5volts so that it doesn't over load the memory controller.

Hi and welcome to OCN.

1- The "specially for Intel CPUs" doesn't matter, can works in both Intel and AMD without problems.
2- You can get almost the same performance with 1600MHz and low timings that with 1866MHz and high timings, remember that AMD love the lower timings in RAM.

8gb is a great spot for a high end system. 16gb isn't needed unless you have a actual need for it, otherwise you are good with 8gb. I run my computer without a page file and I have never used up 8gb.
