GTX 280 + E8400 @ 3.6GHz is Power Supply enough? (I've read the other threads)

Thread Starter
So I got a 500W OCZ Pro ModXStream, I have used it for a GTX 275 and it ran fine, and it seems that the minimum NVIDIA recommendation is 550W for both GTX 275 and GTX 280. Now I read the other threads and everyone says at least 650W, most recommend 750W, and some dude prolly high sayd 1000W+ which is outrageous. Anyway, Newegg power supply calculator says I need 570W, Nvidia 550W, and BFG (its GTX 280 OC) says 575W. What should I do? I could get a GTX 260 but I play at 1920X1080 so Im guessing I need the extra bit of power. This is a temporary setup as my new build has been delayed and GTX 560 Ti kinda blew up. Thanks,
Corsair Lagoon

My sig rig (OC'd SLI 260s) with P95 + furmark running pulls 700w at the wall.

Assuming 80% efficiency that's 560w from the PSU to my internals. The 260 is a crippled 280 and they draw very similar on power (maybe 20% more on the 280?), So you are plenty safe with a decent 500w.
AMD, I give up.

The Nvidia recommendations during that time were based on a system with a near 4Ghz i7 extreme processor (the most power hungry chip at the time); maybe that will help your judgement some.

Also, the brand does matter... Corsair brands just kick up their fan when they get near their peak (I have one) and even run it after power is back down until the temps lower. They handle going near or beyond their rated wattage better, whereas -some other- brands can't even hold their max rated wattage for more than a few minutes. Not sure where OCZ sits in there... Be sure to check the amp ratings blah blah blah.
