Xonar DG and SP2200's... Good combo?

As the titles suggests, I'm after a stylish black 2.1/5.1 speaker system that isn't going to cost the earth.

Asus Xonar DG

SP2200

I have G35's atm for headset gaming/TS in bfbc2, but I am looking to get possibly AD700's or HD555's and mod them to 595's (not available in Aus, but the 595's are) in the future for BF3.

I have a p67a-Ud4, with 2x 2.5slot cooler cards, so I only have the top Pcie x1 slot available, will I run into an problems using this slot?

Many thanks for any help afforded me...

Sincerely,

Ishi

You can get a refurbed/used Xonar DX/D1 for $50 on ebay, which would be a huge upgrade from the very average DG (DX version does need floppy power).

Also, this would be better that the SP2200s by far in terms of sound quality, although it only has a mid-woofer so if your a basshead then you might want to look somewhere else.

And although they aren't stylish, a used set of Promedia 2.1s would be alot better than the SP2200 at half the cost on ebay.

I was actually after a set of Promedia 2.1's, but alas, they never made it to Australia, I like those swan's, and will see if I can get them in Aus when I am able.
The DG has an onboard amp, I'm guessing it's the same with the DX...

What are the advantages of the DX over the DG?
the DX is better card , has no headphone amp but it does great

And the DX is PCIe x1 , while the DG is PCI , people who run SLI/CF look carefully about this point

The amp for DG is pitiful. Save up and just buy an external amp if you really want one. Also, only buy amp if your spending $150+ on headphones, otherwise its a negligible difference.

Shame I can only find swans in white in AUS (still sexy though, its what I have):

I completely missed that the DG was a Legacy slot, thanx for pointing that out, i need a PCIe 1x, as its the only slot available.

Meh..don't bother with realtek unless your getting titanium HD. Realtek low end cards are not worth the money. Invest in an Auzentech Forte if your gonna go a little higher than DX. Why?

It doesn't have bloatware unlike realtek. It has a decent headphone amp that titanium doesn't. It has DTS support. Better op-amp. Better board.

Why will the DX let me down, have you got a review you could link me to?

The problem is, the Auzentech is a $200 card, way above what my budget is...

Is it really worth twice the amount of the DX? which retails at $99 here.
