Sandy-E Xeon Overclocking

So while daydreaming about my future rig with whatever replaces the SR-2 for LGA-2011...I had the following bad thought:

So far, SB overclocking is limited to straight up Multi adjustments. Won't the Xeons have locked Multis?

Does that basically screw the future of uberhigh-performance dual Xeon machines? Or do you think the new SB-E Xeon e5 chips will have unlocked multipliers?

From what I've read so far, SB-E should have different base clock options available, it just won't have asynchronous or floating ratios for the PCI-E and DMI buses that you had on older platforms.

Xeons likely won't let you increase the multipliers beyond the upper limit of turbo, but with higher BCLK options, and lower multipliers available, respectable OCs should still be able to occur.

That said, you'd still be better off with an unlocked chip for OCing. I've never seen any firm evidence that Xeons are consistently better OCers, or that there is noticeably better binning going on.

I have a couple older 1366 Xeon's E5620 & E5645 they OC pretty well, with much lower
voltage than a 960 or 980x I have and run cooler on the same cooling system types.
So I feel there better bin chips, only draw back is locked muti & limited memory controller.
I can do same or better OC on both with less voltage & less heat.

Only issue with that is of course not being able to drop two 3930K chips into a single motherboard.

I believe they're possibly locking down the BCLK as well to only let you pick one of a few options, though perhaps I have that wrong.
