Help with laptop multiplayer

Me and my friend are flying tomorrow and we are both bringing our laptops and we want to play defcon with each other in the plane. Is that possible? I have a Ethernet cord btw. Would I just connect the two computers with the cord or do I have to do something else?

You need a crossover cable not just regular patch.

Mmm I see. Where could I get one o these cables? Radio shack? Best buy? Walmart?
If you're DIY inclined, you could just mark the two sides, cut the cable in half, and solder it together reverse of how it was. I'm 99% sure this works. But yeah, most electronics stores that have ethernet cables will have crossover cables.

You can get one at Radioshack most likely, I doubt Walmart has one. Essentially it's just a Cat5 cable that has two pairs reversed, very simple to make if you had the right tools to cut/crimp Cat5.

Check Radioshack, also maybe Best Buy might have one.

I don't own an iPhone nor am I aware of it's capabilities, but I assume if you could use it to connect laptops to a single connection they should be able to see each other.

That may or may not allow you to run a LAN game that way.

Maybe do a Google search to see if anyone else has used an iPhone for tethering to create a LAN.
