Corrupted Hard Drive :(

Thread Starter
Ok I have a 320gb simpledrive, and yesterday, when I plugged it into my computer it showed up but when I clicked the usb port to open it, I get an error message:
"E:/ is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable."
It was working fine a few weeks ago but it is a few years old. Is there anyway to fix the hard drive or do I have to use a software program to recover the files? Thanks in advance for any replies, the drive is our back up drive for the computers so there are a lot of important files on it

I have both a Windows XP desktop and Windows 7 laptop

You could try downloading a program called Pandora File Recovery and try recovering your files.

Run check disc on the drive to fix the errors. If the errors cannot be fixed then try to format the hard drive or delete the full partition and then make a new simple volume. If all fails which it probably will, replace the drive.

Recuva can do a Deep Scan for files, I believe.

Failing that, EaseUS Partition Recovery might be able to help.

And failing that... TestDisk! (Never used it, but apparently it can fix anything - if you can muck through the DOS interface)

This.

I would also try (if you have one) using a different Drive while having it on and seeing if you can access your files. Done this before. but different/similar issue.

Just throwing this out there since it could be quicker than using some software to recover data. then I would try disk check. if it works good. but it may fail still =[

You never know until you try

Yeah I'm in testdisk right now haha, I skipped the previous two. Currently I am recovering all the "lost" files to a separate hard drive, only 150 hours to go
If anyone has any experience with testdisk I would appreciate any advice on how to fix bad sectors and stuff. The WIki wasn't really any help. Although I did confirm that the partition is fine

Success, I recovered all the files! Just for kicks, does anyone know an estimate of what the price would be to have a "professional" recover my files??
A lot! Grats on the file recovery.
