Obviously, I don't use it in small map skirmish. As mentioned, press shift and you will immediately stop moving. It's for travelling around big maps. In long matches like BF games with maps like Heavy Metal or the 1 with the ship in the desert, not having to hold down the W key and run, is certainly a luxury. Use it in safe areas and you are fine. Use it when there are a dozen guys surrounding you with their crosshair on your head? You have to be a little weird to do that lol.
In Fallout/Elder Scroll games, where you won't have to worry about getting sniped in the head or getting killed in 3 shots from behind, travelling and exploring has become way way WAY less tedious, as all you have to do is move the mouse around. Still remember having to walk 30 mins to get to a landmark, that wasn't fun at all =.=
